Gas Technician

Gas TechnicianThe Gas Technician will work on projects related to landfill gas collection and control systems, monitoring and maintaining gas extraction systems to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and to prevent the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere. This role combines field work and data analysis to support safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible operation of gas systems.ResponsibilitiesMonitor landfill gas collection and control systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.Maintain and troubleshoot gas extraction systems to prevent the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere.Identify and locate gas leaks in pipelines and systems to protect safety and system integrity.Perform routine maintenance and repairs on gas pipelines to prevent leaks and optimize performance.Conduct pressure tests on gas systems to check for leaks and verify proper functioning.Use gas analyzers, including GEM 5000 and Envision Analyzer, to measure and monitor gas concentrations.Perform meter readings and environmental testing to support regulatory compliance and system performance.Repair and maintain gas valves to ensure they operate correctly and reliably.Work with SCADA systems to monitor and help control gas system performance.Apply OSHA safety regulations and protocols in all field and facility activities to maintain a safe work environment.Enter field data accurately and upload information into the company's system at the end of each workday.Collaborate in two-person field teams to monitor systems and complete assigned projects.Use company-provided truck and equipment responsibly while performing field duties.Communicate clearly with team members, project managers, and engineers regarding system status, issues, and completed work.Essential SkillsExperience working in an environmental field or similar technical field environment.Hands-on experience with landfill gas systems and landfill gas collection and control operations.Proficiency using GEM 5000 gas analyzers and Envision meters/analyzers for gas measurement and monitoring.Ability to identify and locate gas leaks in pipelines and gas systems.Knowledge of pipeline maintenance and repair practices for gas systems.Understanding of OSHA safety regulations and ability to adhere to safety protocols in the field.Ability to conduct pressure tests on gas systems to check for leaks and verify proper functioning.Skills in gas analysis, including measuring and interpreting gas concentrations.Proficiency in valve repair and maintenance for gas valves and related components.Familiarity with SCADA systems used to monitor and control gas systems.Basic data entry skills and comfort using systems to record and upload field data.Ability to read meters and perform environmental testing with attention to detail.Capability to work effectively outdoors and in varying weather conditions for extended periods.Additional Skills & QualificationsKnowledge of HVAC systems, particularly gas furnaces, boilers, and water heaters.Experience as a field technician in industrial, utility, or environmental settings.Strong commitment to safety compliance and safe work practices.Ability to work collaboratively in small teams and communicate clearly with technical and project staff.Reliability and organization in managing daily tasks, documentation, and equipment.Work EnvironmentThis role is primarily field-based, with approximately 50–60% of the time spent working outdoors on landfill sites and gas collection systems, often in varying weather conditions. The remainder of the day is spent indoors entering data and uploading information into the company's system. The Gas Technician will be part of a team of eight technicians working closely with project managers and engineers, typically operating in two-person teams while monitoring systems. Standard hours are approximately 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Dress code includes steel toe boots and jeans, with personal protective equipment provided. The work environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and the use of specialized equipment such as gas analyzers, meters, and SCADA-based monitoring tools.
