Description

Reports to : Salvage and Transportation Manager, the position may also take direction from site management at our various locations.

Supervises : None

Position Summary :

This position is responsible for maintaining efficient transportation between sites and to maximize the optimal flow of product necessary for the production or storage of new and donated goods.

Essential Functions :

1. Safely drives company vehicles to transport various items to and from store locations in a safe manner observing all company policies and all transportation laws.
2. Loads and unloads company vehicles at store and donation sites as well as other locations as needed.
3. Operates forklift, pallet jack, various hand trucks and dollies as needed.
4. Operates liftgate and retractable dock plates.

Primary Responsibilities :

1. Support the mission and vision of Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan.
2. Perform work in a safe manner observing all Goodwill safety policies/procedures.
3. Perform duties and interact with all Goodwill team members, clients, and customers in a professional manner. Respect the diversity of others including, but not limited to, those with cultural, ethnic, and gender differences, individuals experiencing homelessness, and persons with visible and non-visible disabilities
4. Transport merchandise between Goodwill, commercial, and residential sites.
5. Follow through on all shipping and receiving, scheduled at any time.
6. Maintain high degree of professionalism and customer service with all areas of the agency and donors.
7. Effectively communicate with all areas of the agency.
8. Drive company trucks and other equipment in a safe and law abiding manner.
9. Maintain inspections, safety requirements, and cleanliness on trucks, forklift, baler and any other equipment.
10. Report and document any mechanical problems or violations.
11. Keep warehouses clean, organized and inventoried.
12. Maintain security and safety measures at all times.
13. Attend required training and maintain licensing.
14. Maintain and adhere to all agency policies and procedures.
15. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education, Licenses, Certifications :

1. High school diploma/GED.
2. Driver's license with a minimum of a chauffeur's classification.
3. Ability to obtain Forklift certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities Required :

1. Minimum of 1 year commercial driving preferred.
2. A clean and safe driving record.
3. Chauffeurs license or CDL.
4. Forklift operation.
5. Basic knowledge of truck maintenance.
6. Self motivated and able to work independently, remain focused and follow through, as well as working as part of a team.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
8. Ability to follow through with scheduled daily plan.
9. Ability to understand and accept people with barriers to employment and everyday living.

Physical Requirements :

1. Standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, reaching, walking, hearing, seeing, twisting and turning.
2. Medium lifting, exerting 20-50 pounds of force.
3. Occasional heavy lifting, exerting 50-100 pounds of force.
4. Work environment sometimes hectic with occasional high stress, and occasional short deadlines.
5. This position is considered a Safety Sensitive position and is subject to zero tolerance under the Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan Drug Free Workplace Policy.
