Medical Assistant II Certified - Digestive Health Smithfield

Overview Digestive Health (Smithfield) is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to provide routine clinical and administrative support in an outpatient clinic setting. The role involves clinical and administrative tasks under provider supervision and general direction of the manager. Summary Position: Medical Assistant II, Certified. Commitment incentive of $7,500 paid over 3 years. Responsibilities Perform rooming and intake: collect vital signs, height, weight, and visit reason. Collect patient/family medical and social history. Review current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy. Assist provider during treatments, examinations, and procedures. Collect specimens and perform phlebotomy. Administer medications under provider direction. Perform tests such as EKG and eye exams under provider direction. Review patient record to determine need for routine health screenings. Ensure exam/procedure rooms contain supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials. Provide patients with after‑visit follow‑up instructions and educational materials. Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms. Clean and sterilize instruments. Assist with patient registration, check‑in/check‑out, appointment scheduling, scheduling of tests and referrals. Answer clinic telephone and assist in‑basket under provider or nurse direction. Assist in emergency situations as directed by provider or nurse. Additional essential responsibilities: precept new medical assistant hires and externs; train other medical assistants in clinic procedures; assist physician with preventive health measures; perform clinic quality or safety role; manage clinic supply ordering. Qualifications Minimum 1 year of full‑time certified medical assistant experience. Medical Assistant certification (AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, NCMA). Basic Life Support Certification from AHA or ARC required. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program (CAAHEP or ABHES) strongly preferred but not required. Ability to perform essential functions of the position. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Positive engagement with patients and families; teamwork with staff and providers. Computer proficiency for documenting into electronic medical record. Job Details Employer: NC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health). Location: Smithfield, NC. Time: Full time, 40 hrs/week (Mon‑Thu 8:00‑17:00; Fri 9:00‑12:30). Pay: $18.84–$26.77 per hour.
