Staff Nurse (RN) in the 9N&S MICU DepartmentBe a part of a world-class academic healthcare system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Staff Nurse (RN) in the 9N&S MICU department at our Hyde Park campus. This position is a 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world's most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is a 24 bed unit split into two sides the north and the south with 12 beds on each side. We are the second largest unit and have a free-floating charge nurse. MICU is the only inpatient unit with a tier 1 score for employee engagement for three consecutive years. You will have the ability to work with physicians that are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care.A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision.Essential Job FunctionsUtilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needsDevelops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patientsAssumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care ManagerProvides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team memberAssists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectivesUses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practiceAssesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meeting needsAttends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluationRequired QualificationsGraduate of an NLN accredited School of NursingAssociate Degree in Nursing Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months.
