POSITION: Road Maintenance Equipment Operator 1
LOCATION: Tillamook County
TYPE:  Temp/Seasonal
PAY RATE: $21.77

SHIFT: Mon – Thurs 7am – 5:30pm

Position Summary

The Road Maintenance Equipment Operator 1 is an entry-level position responsible for helping maintain and repair roads, shoulders, culverts, and drainage ditches.

In this role, you will learn basic road maintenance skills, perform manual labor, assist with traffic control, and support equipment operators. You will also operate light equipment that does not require a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

This is an essential position, meaning you are expected to report to work during emergencies, severe weather, or closures because your work supports public safety and critical services.

MAIN DUTIES

Traffic Control & Safety

• Flag traffic in work zones
• Set up and remove traffic signs and warning devices
• Help direct traffic around road crews or hazards
• Communicate clearly with the public

Equipment Operation

• Drive vehicles that do not require a CDL
• Use hand and power tools such as:
• Weed eaters, blowers, augers, chainsaws (under 24 inches)
• Occasionally operate other road maintenance equipment

Road Repair & Maintenance

• Patch roads and potholes
• Spread gravel, sand, or asphalt
• Sweep repair areas by hand
• Dig ditches
• Clean and install culverts
• Repair shoulders and drainage areas

Installation & Cleanup

• Install and repair fences, guardrails, and road signs
• Replace damaged signs
• Cut, remove, and burn brush
• Remove road hazards such as branches or dead animals

Team Support

• Help equipment operators with materials and debris removal
• Keep worksites clean, safe, and ready
• Work as part of a team to complete projects safely and efficiently

Equipment Care

• Perform pre-trip inspections
• Do minor maintenance on assigned equipment
• Follow all equipment operating and safety procedures

Emergency Response

• Be available for on-call emergencies when needed

REQUIREMENTS

Education –  High school diploma

Experience

• One (1) year of experience in the operation of light road maintenance equipment, OR
• A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
• Valid Oregon Driver’s license and clean driving record
• Current flagger certificate
• Strenuous physical exertion, climbing tall ladders lifting over 50 lbs, crouching, crawling.
