The Galion Civil Service Commission will conduct a physical agility and written examination


to establish an eligibility list for the classification of


FIREFIGHTER

for the City of Galion.

Applications to take the test are available at the Galion City Building, 301 Harding Way East, Galion, Ohio. Completed and notarized applications MUST be returned by 12 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2026, along with copies of school/college transcripts. All applications must be accompanied by a $20.00 CASH performance deposit which will be returned only after the applicant has completed the written test.

The physical agility test will be administered at the Galion High School football stadium on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. Candidates who pass the physical agility test will then take the written examination on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 6 p.m. at Polk Township 7680 SR 309 Galion, Ohio 44833.

Applicants must have reached the age of eighteen (18) and be no more than forty (40) years of age on or before the date of appointment to the Fire Department. Applicants must already have their EMT certification at the time of the exam.

Applicants claiming extra credit for honorable, active state and federal military service, completion of Firefighter I & II training, Paramedic Certification, or an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, must provide documentation substantiating their claim with an ATTACHMENT to their application when submitted. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. Maximum allowable bonus credit is 30%. A passing grade on the written exam is 70% and passing time for the physical agility test 5:30 minutes.


The City of Galion offers a competitive wage and benefits package, including paid vacation; sick time; life, medical, dental and vision insurance; and a pension program. Starting wage for this position is as follows:

Firefighter-EMT - $58,592.56 annually. Four-year top out is $72,455.24.

Firefighter-Paramedic - $59,667.40 annually. Four-year top out is $73,860.80.
