Wastewater Collections Maintenance Tech Trainee (Or Certified)

Entry Level Wastewater Collection System Assistant

Candidate must live within 10 miles of Englewood Water District's office to qualify for position due to emergency on-call requirements.

This is an entry level position responsible for assisting in the construction and maintenance of the wastewater collection system(s). The position primarily works with water infrastructure in the public right-of-way and easements.

Essential Job Functions

• Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of gravity sewer laterals, gravity sewer mains and sewer force mains.
• Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of the Airvac collection system.
• Conducts electrical troubleshooting of lift station and Airvac station panels.
• Participate in and assist with the repairing of and installation of the reclaimed water distribution system.
• Reports on safety hazards, repairs of equipment needed, and unsafe field conditions to managers.
• Performs daily vehicle checks. Cleans track and performs minor maintenance, as needed.
• Utilizes electronic devices to update work orders and for data collection.
• Routinely uses and operates various hand and power tools, as well as gas powered equipment to perform excavation and repairs.
• Performs general housekeeping duties as required.
• Follow oral and written directions to complete tasks designated by his/her direct supervisor.
• Responds to after-hours / weekend / holiday emergencies within 30 minutes while on emergency call-out duty.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• Knowledge and understanding of departmental policies and procedures.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Skilled in verbal and written communication along with strong customer service skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to use electronic devices such as iPads, laptops, and phones to input data on work orders.
• Ability to perform unskilled and semi-skilled manual tasks and to follow instructions.
• Ability to always maintain polite disposition with the public and other employees.
• Ability to work alone or with limited supervision and direction or in a team environment.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor in adverse conditions.
• Ability to perform assigned work professionally and in an organized manner.
• Ability to work extended hours in the event of an emergency or critical incident.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma is required.

(A comparable amount of relevant training, education and/or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)

Licenses and Certifications

• Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
• Must obtain Class A CDL w/ Tanker endorsement within six (6) months of hire date.
• Must obtain a FWPCOA Wastewater Collections Level III certification within two (2) years of appointment.

Physical Activities

The work is moderate: exerting up to 80 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds of force to move objects frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additional requirements include balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking. Position requires the operation of a District vehicle.

Emergency Response Statement

Every District employee has emergency response responsibilities, though not every position will require routine assignments during an emergency event. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official job description.
