Commercial Construction Superintendent (ground up)

Summary Ground Up Commercial Construction Superintendent for automobile dealership development projects in the Los Angeles, CA area (Carson, CA). Responsible for managing construction operations from start to finish, ensuring schedule adherence, quality, safety, and client satisfaction. Duties & Responsibilities Managing day‑to‑day field activities to ensure milestone dates and overall schedule completion. Creating short‑interval look‑ahead project schedules and communicating upcoming events. Managing the project site safety plan and fostering a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness. Coordinating work to adhere to standard‑of‑care and best‑practice construction standards. Establishing and maintaining dimensional controls, including use of third‑party survey and layout personnel when appropriate. Verifying that all work is installed in a workmanlike manner (plumb, level, straight, etc). Obtaining inspections and documenting quality aspects of the physical work. Ensuring compliance with all contract terms and legal requirements governing the project and community. Administering client‑specific programs such as Landlord/Site Rules, Safety, and Site‑Specific Security. Conducting and attending pre‑construction, progress, and other project and staff meetings. Managing self‑performed activities to keep work within the established budget. Managing changes in project scope to keep documents current and prevent avoidable rework. Administering contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and other agreements to meet scope and terms. Managing the punch list and project closeout process for timely completion. Maintaining daily paperwork such as timecards, field reports, schedule updates, and email correspondence. Providing timely and cordial interaction with supporting work groups: client IS department, vendors, security, etc. Assisting in proposal development, reviewing estimates, and participating in interviews. Engaging in marketing and obtaining projects. Performing other duties as assigned to support company goals. Qualifications & Requirements Previous experience handling tilt‑up and ground‑up commercial construction projects. Tenant Improvement (TI) experience. Experience in automobile dealership builds is a major plus. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or similar, or Journeyman status in a building trade from an accredited organization (e.g., Carpenter) and demonstrated progressive supervisory responsibility. Understanding of construction means and methods for renovation and construction of commercial and institutional buildings and related site work. Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, scheduling, Microsoft Office, and other construction industry software. Current safety credentials, including OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR. Construction Skills Understanding sequencing of work and strategy for creating effective project schedules. Understanding project control and change‑order management.
