Flight Nurse

Overview Join us in the enchanting town of Pahrump for an extraordinary career as a Flight Nurse with Air Methods. As a pivotal member of our team, you will provide life‑saving medical transport to the community from our nimble fleet. You must have a minimum of 36 months of recent critical care experience within the last five years, preferably in an ICU, ER, flight, or transport setting. The position requires a schedule of two 24‑hour shifts per week, delivering top‑notch critical care and adhering to the highest standards set by Air Methods Community Base Services (CBS) Medical Directors. Responsibilities Provide nursing care from initial contact until care is relinquished to the accepting medical facility, maintaining thorough documentation. Maintain competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills through ongoing training and education, including licensure, certifications, aviation and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA, and advanced procedures. Operate and maintain all equipment and supplies, reporting failures and ensuring safe, rapid response during transport. Participate in pre‑mission & debriefings, assist pilot with radio, navigation, and observation activities, and conduct aircraft safety briefings as needed. Act as a flight resource for neonatal/pediatric patients, performing advanced skills and procedures as approved by CBS Medical Directors. Engage in patient and institution follow‑up, outreach, education, and marketing activities. Pre‑teach or assist in orientation of new employees and students. Participate in CBS meetings, projects, and committees, including research and publishing opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional Job Requirements Regular attendance is essential; the position is subject to applicable laws and Air Methods’ policies. Travel time: approximately 5% of working hours. Supervisory Responsibilities This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Bachelor’s degree in a health‑related field preferred but not required. Minimum three (3) years of recent critical care/emergency nursing experience within the last five years. Pre‑hospital experience preferred. Flight experience is a plus. Operational & Safety Requirements Maintain a weight not to exceed 225 pounds, including flight suit and boots. Skills Positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public. High critical thinking, reasoning, and attention to detail in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment. Flexibility to work a flexible schedule, including overtime and a 24/7 on‑call rotation. Dependability, self‑motivation, and adaptability to frequent changes. Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills. Computer Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Current RN license in the state of practice. EMS or MICN certification/licensure as required. Current certifications: BLS/CPR; ACLS; PALS or equivalent; TPATC/TNCC/ITLS/PHTLS for advanced providers. If lacking a current trauma certification, Air Methods will provide the TPATC online course prior to orientation. Other Certification Requirements Specialty certification (CFRN or CEN) required within 24 months of hire. Advanced Trauma Course: TPATC, TNCC, ATCN, TNATC, or CAMTS‑approved course before third‑rider training completion. NRP certification before completion of third‑rider orientation.
