Speech And Language Pathologist Job Description Purpose Statement: The job of the Speech and Language Pathologist is to provide support to the educational process. Responsibilities include identifying students with communication disabilities, planning and implementing treatment to minimize adverse impact on student success, recommending educational therapeutic support plans, and providing direction to the Speech Language Pathologist Assistant. Essential Functions Assesses students’ communication skills (articulation, fluency, voice, expressive and receptive language, etc.) to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop recommendations for services. Collaborates with parents, teachers, physicians, administration, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with guidelines. Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre‑referral staffing, etc.) to present evaluation results, therapy/support plans, or provide training to parents, students, or staff. Develops service plans, interventions, and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders, in compliance with regulatory requirements. Instructs students in the use of communication technologies (augmentative communication devices, etc.) to minimize the educational impact of communication disorders. Interprets medical reports within the scope of practice to ensure treatment/intervention plans are appropriate. Maintains files and records (progress reports, activity logs, billing information, therapy plans, documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) for reference and compliance. Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (training, IEPs, team meetings, etc.) to convey and gather information. Performs site visits at multiple locations, including home visits and private day, to provide therapy and assistance as required. Prepares written materials (activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, documentation, etc.) documenting activities and conveying information. Provides speech and language therapy to students to minimize the adverse impact of speech and language disorders on student success. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Apply assessment instruments; operate specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders; use computer software and standard office equipment; prepare and maintain accurate records. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders; principles and practices of speech and language therapy; ASHA guidelines, codes, policies, regulations, and laws. Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, communicate with diverse groups, work independently, use standardized methods, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, translate therapy data into educational activities, and work as part of a team. Responsibility: Work under limited supervision using standardized practices, lead, guide, and coordinate others, operate within a budget, utilize resources from other units, and impact organizational services. Work Environment: Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, fine finger dexterity; requires 33% sitting, 33% walking, 34% standing; exposure to risk of injury and illness. Experience: Job‑related experience in a specialized field is required. Education: Master’s degree in a related field. Equivalency: Required testing certificates and licenses, Arizona teaching credentials. Other Functions Research resources and methods (intervention and therapy techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) to determine the appropriate approach. Respond to inquiries from parents, teachers, staff, and students to provide information and referral. Teach support staff on communicative disorders, assistive devices, and feeding techniques. Transport supplies and equipment to various sites. Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. Continuing Education / Training Clearances Maintains certificates and licenses, criminal background clearance/fingerprint clearance required; MMR immunization. #J-18808-Ljbffr
