Our client is looking for a hands-on Controller to lead the company’s accounting and financial activities in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. This role is suited to someone who is detail oriented and can balance day-to-day accounting execution with team leadership, while building reliable reporting and sound financial processes. The successful candidate will play a key role in budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and strengthening the accuracy of financial information used to guide business decisions.

Responsibilities:

• Direct daily accounting activities while providing guidance, coaching, and oversight to accounting team members to maintain strong performance and ongoing growth.

• Oversee the complete month-end and year-end close cycle, ensuring financial records are finalized accurately and within established deadlines.

• Prepare budgets, update rolling forecasts, and perform financial and cash flow analysis to support planning and operational decision-making.

• Deliver timely financial statements and management reports, while maintaining consistency and accuracy across accounting data and related operational records.

• Establish, refine, and document accounting procedures, workflows, and policies to improve control, efficiency, and coordination across functions.

• Strengthen internal control practices and reinforce compliance with financial and regulatory requirements through disciplined oversight.

• Support multi-entity accounting activities and ensure transactions are recorded appropriately across business units.

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting operations through process enhancements, automation, and application of sound technical accounting practices.

• 5–7+ years of experience performing at the Controller level with responsibility for core accounting and financial management functions.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online is required.
• Strong knowledge of multi-entity accounting and the ability to manage financial activity across related entities.
• Demonstrated success designing or maintaining internal controls and supporting compliance-focused accounting practices.
• Proven ability to produce dependable financial reports with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Solid skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, including cash flow planning.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Excel, Teams, and SharePoint.
