Registered Nurse – One on One Support Foster‑Glocester Regional Schools, Ponaganset Middle – Glocester, Rhode Island • Job ID: 5743432 • Application Deadline: Posted until filled • Posted: May 28, 2026 • Starting Date: Immediately • Position Type: Full‑time Responsibilities Develops and administers population‑based health services to school children in public and non‑public schools in the community, and provides individualized health services to all public school children in the community in accordance with state law, regulations, and district policy that include, but are not limited to: Ensures health, vision, dental, hearing, etc., examinations/screenings; Provides direct health‑related services in accordance with state statute and district policy; Provides first aid as needed and assists emergency caregivers as applicable; Reports and manages any school‑based communicable, environmental, or occupational disease as directed by a physician and/or in accordance with regulations; Develops and implements individualized health care plans (IHCP) and/or emergency care plans (ECP/EHCP) for children with specific health care needs; Maintains a complete, up‑to‑date health record system in accordance with regulations using available technology. Plans and implements health and flu clinics in conjunction with state agencies; Monitors newly enrolled students to ensure that state law and district policy are implemented concerning health issues (e.g., immunization, medical records); Administers medication in accordance with state law and district policy; Serves on the district wellness committee; Advises and counsels students, staff, and parents, as appropriate, concerning health issues; Makes referrals to school resources, community agencies, and state agencies as necessary; Serves as consultant and resource person in health instruction and curriculum planning; Advises and supports administrators regarding development of district policies and procedures related to health issues and the implementation of state law; Refers students with suspected disabilities to district specialists, pupil and support teams; Makes recommendations to the principal regarding health and safety to promote a safe, healthy, and comfortable learning environment; Maintains professional competence by doing professional reading and attending appropriate workshops, courses and conferences in keeping with the needs of the student body and in accordance with district guidelines; Reports promptly communicable diseases designated as "reportable diseases" by the Director of Health when such cases are diagnosed in the school‑based health center; Maintains a health care record on every patient seeking health care services that documents for each visit to the school‑based health center the following: patient identification (name, address, age and sex), pertinent health history and physical findings, diagnostic and therapeutic orders, reports of procedures, tests and findings of each visit, diagnostic impressions; and other pertinent data; Provides training for district staff concerning health‑related issues; Communicates with parents/guardians as needed concerning their child’s health; Communicates with various health‑related organizations in the community and surrounding areas as needed for students and staff; Appraises administrators, teachers, and staff of relevant health issues and exemplary programs being used in other districts and actively leads the incorporation of relevant effective practices within our district; Prepares budgets according to the procedures established by the Business Manager; Provides the Principal with year‑ending inventory of materials, where appropriate; Coordinates orientation/articulation programs for students moving from elementary schools to the middle school and/or from the middle school to the high school as appropriate; Attends a reasonable number of additional after school meetings, as needed, to perform the functions of the position; Performs the duties of the position for the posted compensation; Establishes and monitors the student (cumulative) record system to ensure that relevant, up‑to‑date information is maintained and an effective procedure for the release of student records to authorized agencies, educational institutions and individuals in accordance with governing laws and policies; Performs the functions of the position in accordance with the RI Professional Code of Conduct; laws, regulations, school district policies, the mission of the district, school‑based plans, and administrative directives/priorities/requests to meet student needs and ensure the operation of the school health services; Performs such other functions, duties, tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal or superintendent or designee. Qualifications Registered Nurse, Rhode Island License LPN or RN License Bachelor’s Degree Certification from Rhode Island Department of Education CPR/AED Certification Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and to lead and support colleagues Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive health services program based on national and state standards Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform the functions and duties of this position Demonstrated skills in human relations, effective communication, problem solving and organization Demonstrated knowledge of rules and regulations for school health programs and nursing practices Two years of successful experience as a school‑nurse (preferred) or practicing nurse Current BCI check completed with no disqualifying remarks (required for candidates not previously employed by Foster schools) Equal Employment Opportunity An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
