Join General Machine as a Precision Machining Specialist
Based in Freeburg, IL, General Machine is a growing machine shop and fabricator known for meeting the toughest customer expectations. We’re expanding our team with a hands-on specialist who takes pride in craftsmanship and quality.
A day in the lifeYou arrive, review the day’s blueprints, and plan your setups. You’ll load tools, set offsets, and run first-article parts on CNC and/or manual mills and lathes. Using calipers and micrometers, you verify critical features, make fine adjustments, and keep the job moving. Throughout the shift, you monitor machine performance, troubleshoot when needed, collaborate with engineers and programmers to streamline cycles, and keep a clean, safe, and well-organized work area. You’ll wrap by updating production documentation and ensuring records are accurate.
What you’ll do- Set up, operate, and fine-tune CNC and/or manual mills and lathes to machine precision parts.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining methods.
- Inspect parts with calipers, micrometers, and other precision tools to confirm conformance.
- Monitor machines, make adjustments, and maintain quality standards during production.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
- Partner with engineers and programmers to improve processes and efficiency.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
- Complete production paperwork and keep accurate job records.
- Proven experience in machining (CNC and/or manual).
- Ability to set up and operate CNC mills, lathes, and/or manual machines.
- Familiarity with G-code programming (a plus but not required).
- Hands-on experience using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related metrology tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving mindset.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
