Practical Nursing Instructor

Overview Join the WDTC team to instruct students in the Practical Nursing Program. The instructional program occurs in classroom lecture, lab, and clinical settings, and prepares students to work in the practical nursing field. Reporting Structure Reports to: Director of Nursing Supervises: Adjuncts as needed Working Conditions This is a full‑time position. Work is performed in classroom lecture settings, nursing labs, and clinical settings. Generally, days are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.; hours may include evenings and weekends for planned school events. Some travel may be required for meetings and training. Physical Demands The duties are sedentary, with standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, twisting, climbing, balancing, and lifting/moving objects up to 50 lbs. Use of hands to use the computer and handle objects, and the ability to talk and hear, are required. Certifications and Licenses Needed SD Nursing License Driver's License Mastery of Subject Matter Demonstrate thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline. Interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline. Connect subject matter with related fields. Stay current through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attendance at professional meetings, conferences, or workshops. Review and report on the program's content and assessment to meet Higher Learning Commission requirements. Learn and use technology to enhance teaching when appropriate. Teaching Performance Teach the course load as outlined in the Faculty Work Agreement. Plan and organize instruction to maximize documented student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter. Modify instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Use instructional technology (internet, interactive technology, simulation) when appropriate. Encourage development of communication and higher‑order thinking skills through assignments. Contribute to selection and development of instructional materials. Incorporate core competencies into curriculum. Promote student success by building positive interpersonal relationships. Develop, update, and post course syllabi promptly. Evaluation of Student Learning Establish meaningful learning outcomes. Develop and explain measurement methods for student progress. Create an annual program learning outcome plan and complete assessment cycle requirements. Evaluate student performance fairly, consistently, and return work promptly. Maintain accurate records of progress and submit final grade rosters on time. Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances. Support of School Policies and Procedures Teach classes as assigned. Perform duties as outlined in the faculty handbook. Adhere to FERPA regulations. Substitute for other instructors when absent. Exercise stewardship of facilities and materials. Record and provide attendance data per school policy. Participation in Western Dakota Tech Program Activities Serve on committees as assigned. Participate in meetings and events required by WDTC administrators. Respond timely to information requests from colleagues and administrators. Support both part‑time and full‑time colleagues. Contribute to curriculum development and assessment. Demonstrate strong interpersonal communication skills. Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of School Mission Maintain familiarity with strategic goals and mission. Contribute to planning and development processes. Participate in professional activities contributing to educational goals. Perform responsibilities in line with program goals. Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Minimum three years of related practical nursing industry work experience or equivalent. SD Registered Nursing license and driver’s license required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of practical nursing principles, clinical practices, and standards of care. Fundamental knowledge of curriculum design, development, and evaluation in nursing education. Fundamental knowledge of effective teaching strategies, learning theories, and instructional methodologies for adult learners. Knowledge of classroom, laboratory, and clinical management techniques. Knowledge of student assessment and evaluation methods. Knowledge of program development, implementation, and continuous quality improvement processes. Knowledge of institutional policies, regulatory and accreditation standards. Knowledge of trends, best practices, and emerging issues. Ability to instruct, coach, and provide constructive feedback. Skill in maintaining professional standards and modeling clinical behavior. Strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to build collaborative relationships. Strong organizational, time‑management, and prioritization skills. Critical thinking, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate courses, clinical experiences, and program initiatives. Ability to utilize AI‑enabled tools when appropriate.
