Job Description We have an opening for an Electronics Technologist/Senior Electronics Technologist to support Pulsed Power Research and Development (R&D). In this role, you will support experimental campaigns by helping develop diagnostic sensors and operating high‑voltage, high‑current, and explosively driven R&D systems. You will also perform console operations for experimental subsystems and diagnostics, including data acquisition and related support functions. You will help solve complex technical problems through regular interactions with colleagues and engineers at Site 200 and off‑site locations. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the Engineering Directorate. This position requires full‑time on‑site presence due to the nature of the work. This position will be filled at either level based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level. Responsibilities Provide general electronic technical support to engineering, scientific, and technical staff to plan and conduct experiments using specialized explosive, electronic and pulsed power systems at LLNL and off‑site locations. Identify and acquire moderately complex data and results to report findings, identify problems and utilize advanced methods, perform analysis using established methods. Design, diagnose, troubleshoot, test, evaluate, upgrade, and maintain moderately complex electronic and pulsed power systems. Contribute to moderately complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision processes. Interpret and work from sketches, drawings, schematics, and verbal or written instructions to troubleshoot and resolve problems at the system, subsystem, or component level. Use advanced methods of data collection. Perform work under general supervision for the production and assembly of electronic devices and systems. Maintain a high level of safety while adhering to written safety procedures. Perform other duties as assigned. Additional responsibilities (Level 531.3) Provide advanced technical support for experimental work and analyze complex preliminary data under minimal supervision. Maintain, test, calibrate, and repair advanced electronic circuits, instrumentation, control and diagnostic systems. Independently deploy, fabricate, troubleshoot, assemble, and disassemble complex electronic and/or electro‑optic systems. Assist in developing and documenting test parameters, procedures, and safety documentation, and provide technical input to improve reliability of test setups. Qualifications Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance requiring U.S. citizenship. Associate degree in electronics engineering technology or equivalent combination of education and prior technical experience. Intermediate skills, knowledge, and abilities in electronics technology, including theory, design, and component‑to‑system level understanding of analog and digital systems. Intermediate understanding of electronic design and schematics. Hands‑on experience in using laboratory electrical instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, digital multimeters, etc.). Hands‑on experience with electrical fabrication tools and processes (soldering, wire and cable termination, splicing, heat‑shrink tube, power tools). Ability to solve moderately complex analytical problems. Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively within large teams. Ability to travel domestically in support of experimental test campaigns. Advanced qualifications (Level 531.3) Advanced skills and knowledge in complex electronics technology. Advanced understanding of electronic design and schematics. Advanced proficiency with laboratory electrical instrumentation. Advanced proficiency with electrical fabrication tools and processes. Experience making independent, fundamental decisions regarding a variety of technical problems. Ability to work effectively while handling multiple assignments concurrently. Effective written and verbal communication, feedback, and presentation skills sufficient to develop and report data, and to work successfully with a multidisciplinary team in a highly collaborative environment. Desirable qualifications Experience with the design, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pulsed power systems and high‑voltage electronics. Experience with high sample rate data acquisition and processing, including electrical and optical systems. Experience with explosives and electrical systems associated with explosive devices (firesets). Pay Range $43.55 – $63.97 hourly (overall); $43.55 – $53.36 hourly for Level 531.2; $52.23 – $63.97 hourly for Level 531.3. Benefits Flexible schedules (depending on project needs).
