About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: ER (Emergency Room) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening/Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years in Emergency Department License: Must have a valid state license in hand Certifications: ACLS BLS PALS TNCC Must-Have: 2 years of Emergency Department experience Open to first-time travelers Description: Must have an active state license. The department is a Trauma Level IV center. Does not receive stroke or STEMI patients. Patients are typically sent to other facilities for those services. The emergency department has 14 beds and 2 trauma bays. There is a Fast Track area with 3 designated rooms. The facility also has 2 triage rooms. Travelers can perform triage duties after reviewing facility policies and procedures. Patients are generally held in the department, with additional capacity available in attached rooms when needed. There are separate psych/seclusion rooms that can be utilized as necessary. Security is not present 24/7 in-house, but local police and internal codes are on standby. On average, 40-60 patients are treated in the department each day. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-4 during daytime and can increase at night after 11 PM. From 3 AM to 7 AM, the ratio is typically 1:2. Common patient presentations include traumas, cardiac events, and motor vehicle accidents. Both emergency department physicians and mid-level providers are available 24/7 in-house. RNs take assignments and may serve in charge nurse roles during the day shifts. There is coverage by nurse aids, medics, and LPNs around the clock. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7, including for ABG sampling and breathing treatments. There are no monitor techs in the department; RNs monitor patients directly from a central monitoring station. X-ray services are available 24/7, located nearby, and CT is accessible through double doors. Phlebotomy services are available 24/7 for lab draws. The schedule is managed by the department manager, who strives to minimize consecutive days on and off. Weekend work is required every other weekend. Holiday work is mandatory for at least 2 out of 3 major holidays. Volunteers may leave early without pay if needed. Inpatient floating may be required to assist when necessary. Scrubs should be a solid color, clean, and professional. Training includes both computer-based and floor orientation.
