Electrical Construction Senior Project Manager
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Electrical Construction Senior Project Manager to lead large-scale commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical construction projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering projects on time, within budget, and to quality and safety standards by managing estimating, scheduling, procurement, construction execution, commissioning, and closeout while coordinating with owners, engineers, contractors, and vendors. Key Responsibilities
- Lead planning and execution of electrical construction projects from preconstruction through turnover and closeout, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and safety objectives are met.
- Prepare and review estimates, budgets, cost forecasts, and CIP tracking; implement cost control strategies to meet financial targets.
- Develop and maintain project schedules using MS Project and Primavera P6; coordinate critical path activities and resource allocation.
- Manage contract administration including creation and review of contracts, subcontracts, change orders, claims, and payment applications.
- Oversee procurement and vendor management for long-lead electrical equipment (switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, MCCs) and manage vendor performance and delivery schedules.
- Supervise subcontractors and on-site crews; provide site leadership, daily coordination, and problem resolution to drive productivity and schedule adherence.
- Review and approve shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and technical documentation; ensure designs comply with project requirements and applicable codes.
- Coordinate BIM activities and clash resolution using Revit and BIM coordination processes; integrate electrical models with other trades.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA standards, OSHA requirements, and company safety programs; lead safety meetings and enforce jobsite safety practices.
- Oversee quality control, testing, commissioning and start-up activities for power distribution, medium voltage systems, lighting, controls, and instrumentation.
- Manage grounding, bonding, cable pulling/termination, conduit and cable tray installations, and MV/HV distribution system work.
- Resolve change order requests, claims, and RFI management in a timely manner; maintain accurate documentation and communication with stakeholders.
- Prepare regular project reports, progress invoices, forecasts, and presentations for owners and executive leadership.
- Organize project closeout activities including as-built documentation, warranty packages, commissioning reports, and owner training.
- Utilize ERP systems (SAP/JD Edwards) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills for cost tracking, billing, procurement, and project reporting.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 8+ years of electrical construction experience with at least 5 years in project management or senior project leadership on medium to large projects.
- Proven experience with electrical systems including power distribution, medium voltage, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, generators, UPS, lighting systems, and low- voltage/instrumentation and controls.
- Strong proficiency in project controls: estimating, budgeting, cost control, scheduling (MS Project, Primavera P6), and claims/change order management.
- Hands-on familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, BIM coordination, and reviewing shop drawings and submittals.
- In-depth knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices for safety and quality control.
- Experience with commissioning and testing procedures, start-up coordination, and project closeout documentation.
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors, vendors, procurement processes, and contract administration.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP, JD Edwards) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting and analysis.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- PMP certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; LEED, NICET, or other relevant certifications a plus.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and a valid drivers license required.
