Grant Manager- JCC Weinger - FT

Reports to (title): Senior Director of Development

Job Summary:

JCC Chicago is the largest of more than 170 Jewish Community Centers in North America - home to six early childhood centers, nine-day camps, one resident overnight camp, and a myriad of other programs and services focused on the care and keeping of children, family, and community. JCC Chicago has served our community for over 100 years and reaches more than 100,000 community members yearly through our programs, services, and experience.

The Grant Manager will be responsible for a breadth of grant-related activities including foundation research, managing and developing grant submission timelines, drafting and submitting proposals, and writing grant reports. This position will work closely with program area staff to secure information related to the development and submission of grants and monitoring and reporting on program activities related to grant proposals funded by foundations, corporations, and the Jewish United Fund. The position will also work closely with the Finance department and Community Engagement department to develop and track grant budgets. Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Development, the Grant Manager will increase the capacity of JCC Chicago to secure grant funding from private, corporate, and government funders.

Key Essential Job Duties :
  • Generate well-written letters of inquiry and proposals for grant submissions.
  • Assemble all supporting documentation related to grant submissions.
  • Develop grant budgets in partnership with the Finance Department and program staff.
  • Compile information from program staff and draft grant reports for funders.
  • Conduct prospect research, identify strong funding prospects, and present for review.
  • Develop and maintain annual grant submission and reporting calendar.
  • Draft well-written, program-specific thank you letters to funders.
  • Create and maintain funder-specific stewardship and cultivation plans on an annual basis.
  • Assist with other areas of Financial Resource Development Department.
  • Support and participate in all solicitation and cultivation efforts for agency fundraising projects.
  • Execute special projects as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, twist and/or walk on a frequent basis throughout an 8-hour day.
  • Mobility: Repetitive movement of arms and hands to operate computer, smartphone, keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to frequently push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally may need to lift more than 20 pounds.
  • Mental Abilities: Attention to detail; manage multiple projects, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Vision Abilities: See detail in objects; distinguish between colors, shades and brightness and ability to focus and operate a vehicle or office equipment.
Days/Hours/%Travel:

The position will be primarily Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours per week during regular business hours. Local travel to different agency sites and locations may be required. The Development team currently operates on a hybrid model and is in-office 3 days per week. Some evenings and weekend will be required for major agency events.

Education Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Non-Profit Management, or related degree and/or related job experience.
Previous Experience:
  • 5+ years of grant research, writing, and grant management experience required.
Other Requirements:
  • Successful management of simultaneous multiple projects and constituents.
  • Strategic thinking, ability to deploy innovative approaches and solutions.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage complex timelines and multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dedication to agency mission and vision.
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, meet deadlines and work autonomously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Salesforce.
  • Commitment to JCC's mission, vision, and values.
  • Experience working with volunteers strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional ability to take direction and initiative, and to exercise sound judgement.
  • A good sense of humor and humility, and an eagerness to learn.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to donors, board members, JCC leadership, volunteers, and the general public.
  • The successful candidate will be a motivated, efficient and dynamic self-starter who is flexible and can thrive in a complex and fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of the Chicago Jewish community and passion for community programming highly desirable.
