Overview of Position:

A Staff Cafeteria Cook at Appellation Healdsburg is responsible for preparing and serving meals for employees in the staff cafeteria. This role ensures meals are prepared to meet internal standards for quality, taste, and safety while creating a welcoming dining experience for team members. The cook maintains efficiency in a high-volume kitchen environment and supports overall kitchen operations.  

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Prepare and Cook Dishes: Follow recipes and guidelines to prepare meals for the staff cafeteria with consistency and quality. 

Ensure Food Quality and Presentation: Maintain standards for food appearance, temperature, and taste. 

Maintain Workstation Cleanliness: Keep the cafeteria station clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations. 

Inventory and Supply Management: Monitor stock levels and assist in ordering and managing inventory pars. 

Collaborate with Kitchen Team: Work in coordination with other cooks and team members to ensure smooth meal service. 

Adhere to Health and Safety Standards: Comply with local health department regulations and internal sanitation procedures  

Skills & Qualifications:

Education: A culinary degree or certification from a recognized culinary institute is preferred but not required. Equivalent hands-on experience is accepted. 

Experience: Minimum 1–2 years in a professional kitchen setting, preferably in a high-volume or institutional environment. Experience in batch cooking is a plus. 

Knife Skills: Ability to safely and efficiently chop, dice, and slice ingredients. 

Cooking Proficiency: Comfort with a range of cooking methods such as boiling, steaming, roasting, and preparing meals in batches. 

Food Safety: Strong understanding of food safety practices. ServSafe certification required. 

Communication: Clear verbal communication to coordinate with team members during preparation and service. 

Teamwork: Able to follow direction from the Food Service Manager and lead cooks while contributing positively to the team environment.  

Essential Functions:

To perform the duties and requirements for this job, you must have the following physical abilities: 

Sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk up and down stairs 

Enter data into a computer terminal, operate standard office equipment, and use telephone 

See and read a computer screen and printed matter with or without vision aids 

Hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone 

Speak so that others may understand at normal levels and on the telephone 

Constant: sitting, standing and repetitive use of hands, arms, and legs 

Frequent: typing, use of mouse, bending of neck, climbing stairs 

Occasional: twisting of neck  

You must have the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stoop, and reach; lift and carry equipment and supplies; walking daily up and down the stairs and sitting for periods up to 4 hours and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with or without reasonable accommodations.
