We are changing the world with: Trusted products that accelerate drug discovery, development, and delivery to save lives Damage-resistant cover glass to enhance the devices that keep us connected Optical fiber, wireless technologies, and connectivity solutions to carry information and ideas at the speed of light Precision glass for advanced displays to deliver richer experiences Auto glass and ceramics to drive cleaner, safer, and smarter transportation Solar polysilicon, wafers, and innovative photovoltaic modules, enabling low-cost solar energy solutions Role Purpose Work with business partners to identify new single crystal materials solutions to address market needs in semiconductor technologies and/or aerospace and defense markets Collaborate with R&D and manufacturing teams to identify, make, and scale new materials Benchmark performance of competitive products, processes and alternative technologies Supporting customer engagements by providing technical expertise and fundamentals Key Responsibilities Develop fundamental understanding of single crystal growth processes and drive improvements to current processes to increase yield or quality of products. Engage across the business team – R,D,&E, production, commercial, sales- to troubleshoot and improve existing product lines Lead technical investigations into materials growth, properties, or application including experimental planning, execution, data analysis, and communicating results providing impact. Conduct failure mode analysis to determine root cause and identify path to improve performance, yields, costs and safety. Work effectively in a collaborative team environment Experiences/Education - Required PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Solid-state Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or other relevant field AND 10 years experience Deep technical understanding of single crystal materials and their optical properties Demonstrated deep knowledge and skills in understanding material growth and characterizaton methods Proven ability to define, execute, analyze, and communicate results from experiments Proven ability to perform independent scientific work from concept to documentation Ability to make data-driven decisions by combining analytical thinking with practical judgment Ability to work independently and to interface with large teams, working across departmental/discipline boundaries Excellent oral and written communication skills Experiences/Education - Desired Practical experience in vertical Bridgman single crystal growth and growth of large crystals Working knowledge of optical materials, including glass and glass ceramics. Working knowledge of metrology related to the optical properties and characteristics of material This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $139,499.00 - $191,812.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
