We are seeking a strategic, execution-oriented Director of Software Engineering to lead multiple software engineering managers and their associated Agile delivery teams within a large-scale enterprise technology organization. This leader will play a key role in advancing our cloud transformation, modernization, software delivery maturity, and AI-enabled engineering capabilities while building a strong, collaborative engineering culture. The ideal candidate combines strong organizational leadership with technical credibility and operational discipline. This role requires the ability to lead through transformation, modernize legacy platforms, improve engineering effectiveness, and partner closely with business and technology stakeholders across a highly matrixed environment. This leader will help shape the next generation of software delivery by leveraging modern cloud-native architectures, platform engineering practices, automation, observability, and responsible adoption of artificial intelligence throughout the software development lifecycle. This position will be with National Indemnity Company in Omaha, NE with a hybrid 50% in the office work environment. This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship. What will you do? Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent work experience 10+ years related work experience in Software Engineering, including supervision of Managers Trusted and respected as a thought leader who can influence and persuade business and IT leaders Strong understanding of software engineering delivery models, SDLC practices, and operational excellence principles. Excellent communication, organizational leadership, and stakeholder management skills Who would excel in this role? Someone with experience within insurance, financial services, healthcare, or other regulated industries Someone with experience with Microsoft Azure cloud platform and cloud-native engineering practices Someone familiar with Guidewire platforms or enterprise core systems modernization Someone with an MBA or advanced technical/business degree preferred We want you to be involved!
