Associate Mechanical Systems Engineer-Nuclear

Overview Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated person to join our team executing the design of mechanical systems, supporting Nuclear Power Generation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad, perform all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis, acquire knowledge of Black & Veatch and industry standards, and prepare moderately complex engineering deliverables, conduct research, and develop project design recommendations. Key Responsibilities Continue learning and remain current on departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black & Veatch policies and procedures, applying them to assigned tasks as appropriate. Continuously develop and independently apply knowledge, comply with Black & Veatch quality program, support continuous improvement and change management efforts. Prepare a variety of increasingly complex engineering deliverables, perform research, develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection, collect, assimilate and manage data for engineering work, prepare engineering calculations following standard methods and principles, understand and adhere to budget, schedule and quality requirements, and may recognize, define and resolve problems within the assigned area, providing direction and guidance to others. Assign tasks to develop entry‑level professionals and interns, coordinate with project leadership and internal/external team members on less complex projects, and interact with other disciplines on details of design work. Work to understand external client interests and drivers through regular interaction and communication, focusing also on internal client needs and project leadership, and may provide support to business development or pursuit activities. Share current knowledge of latest technology and processes. Assist with performance management processes, recognition, and corrective actions as skills develop, actively mentoring entry‑level professionals and interns. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Instrument and/or Service Air Systems Demineralized (DM) water supply and make‑up systems Service and potable water supply system Natural, hydrogen, and nitrogen gas supply system Closed cycle cooling water system High Pressure / Intermediate Pressure / Low / Auxiliary Steam system Feedwater and condensate systems CO2 supply system Calculations including pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat exchanger sizing, atmospheric tank sizing, etc. P&ID development Design and engineering work for air, gas, water and steam systems Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program. Minimum of 1 year related work experience. Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements such as background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search in compliance with applicable laws. Certifications Engineering-in-training (EIT) Work Environment/Physical Demands Typical office environment; prolonged sitting and computer use; focus and attention to detail required. Physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping and standing or walking for extended periods. Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion and work assignments.
