A growing Houston-based organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its corporate accounting team in a newly created position. This is an excellent opportunity for a public accounting professional looking to make the move into industry , particularly someone with an audit background who enjoys digging into complex accounting issues, researching technical questions, improving processes, and identifying opportunities for stronger controls.

The Controller is looking for a strong Senior Accountant who can serve as a key partner while helping elevate processes and develop the existing team.

Importantly, this role is being viewed as part of the department's succession plan to Accounting Manager , providing meaningful advancement potential for someone who performs well in the position.

Senior Accountant Responsibilities:

• Partner closely with the Controller on month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, accruals, allocations, and other complex accounting matters.
• Assist with the preparation of monthly financial statements and reporting packages for senior management and the Board.
• Research accounting issues and provide recommendations regarding appropriate GAAP treatment.
• Analyze existing accounting processes, identify errors or control gaps, and help implement improvements.
• Take ownership of several critical accounting areas, including fixed assets, lease accounting, revenue accruals and deferrals, inventory, and operational cost allocations.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and other work prepared by members of the accounting team.
• Help train and develop staff while providing day-to-day guidance on accounting processes and best practices.
• Support the annual external audit and assist with audit requests and supporting documentation.
• Evaluate and strengthen internal controls and help develop new processes as the accounting organization evolves.
• Participate in future accounting systems and technology initiatives.
• Assist with special projects, ad hoc analysis, and technical accounting research as requested by leadership.

Sr. Accountant Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience preferred.
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred , particularly audit experience with a Big 4 or large regional firm.
• For candidates currently in public accounting, ideally at least one full busy season operating at the Senior Associate/Senior Auditor level .
• Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial statement reporting.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to research issues, identify problems, and recommend solutions rather than simply execute established processes.
• Experience reviewing work and providing guidance or training to junior team members.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
