Job Description

The Phlebotomist II plays a key role in a fast-paced clinical environment by performing venipunctures and other specimen collections, ensuring accurate labeling and handling of samples, and delivering courteous, patient-focused service. This position supports high-volume laboratory operations in a women's health clinic and contributes to maintaining regulatory compliance and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws and other specimen collections, including urine and fecal samples, in accordance with established procedures and protocols.
• Clearly and courteously explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and butterfly needles, following safety and quality guidelines.
• Collect, label, and store specimens accurately, matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes to ensure 100% correctness.
• Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.
• Verify all test requisitions or computer-generated labels against scripts or orders to prevent errors.
• Package specimens for transport, following procedures to maintain specimen integrity, including correct temperature and container requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance data and decontamination activities in the laboratory or clinic setting.
• Update patient information and related documentation in systems or records as required.
• Understand and fully interpret physicians’ orders related to laboratory tests and specimen handling.
• Store specimen samples at appropriate temperatures and in proper collection containers or tubes, following specific protocols for each test.
• Adhere to OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards.
• Attend annual department trainings and other required educational sessions to maintain current knowledge of procedures and regulations.
• Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results as needed to satisfy inquiries and support patient care.
• Provide customer service-oriented support to patients and staff, contributing to a positive clinic experience.
• Contribute to a high-volume workflow in a fast-paced lab or hospital-type environment, maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 1 year of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting, with 2+ years of experience preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in blood drawing and specimen collection, including urine and fecal specimens.
• Ability to accurately label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to test orders and protocols.
• Strong attention to detail in matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verifying test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
• Understanding of physicians’ orders related to laboratory testing and specimen handling.
• Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations and general laboratory safety practices.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and communication tasks.
• Customer service orientation with the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients and staff.
• Ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced healthcare environment.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 2–4 years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.
• Experience working in a women’s health clinic or similar healthcare environment.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude in a busy clinical setting.
• Experience handling high volumes of blood draws and specimen collections.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to patient-centered care.
• Experience in general healthcare or clinical support roles.

Work Environment

This role is based in a women’s health clinic that operates Monday through Friday, with standard hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and early departures on most Fridays. The environment is fast-paced and high volume, requiring consistent focus, accuracy, and strong patient interaction skills. Work is performed in a clinical setting with standard laboratory equipment such as centrifuges and specimen storage units, and involves adherence to established safety, OSHA, and DEP regulations. The schedule does not include nights or weekends, offering a stable weekday work pattern in a professional healthcare environment.

This is a Contract position based out of FAYETTEVILLE, AR.

The pay range for this position is $20.05 - $20.05/hr.
