Job Description The Radiation Therapist is responsible for delivering prescribed ionizing therapeutic radiation accurately under the direction of a Radiation Oncologist, using a variety of complex techniques and equipment. Responsibilities Interprets and implements prescription and treatment plan as directed by the Radiation Oncologist. Educates patients on procedures, skincare, side effects, and nutrition. Performs simulation procedures and prepares immobilization devices for various body parts. Monitors patients’ clinical progress, withholds treatment if necessary, and refers patients to Radiation Oncologist or Executive Director for appropriate intervention. Operates therapeutic equipment, ensures proper patient positioning, monitors the patient during the procedure, and performs related clerical duties. Evaluates and assesses treatment machine operations; recognizes machine malfunctions and reports them to the Executive Director. Communicates clearly and concisely with all members of the health care team, patients, and families. Adheres to strict radiation safety guidelines, internal quality controls, organizational standards, department policies and procedures, and strategic goals. Accurately completes and charts all simulation and treatment summaries, reports, and documentation. Qualifications Graduated from an accredited Radiation Therapy School. Current ARRT and State licensure required and verified prior to employment. Current BLS certificate required and verified prior to employment. Minimum of six (6) months’ experience as a staff therapist preferred; willing to train recent graduates. Key Competencies Excellent customer service skills. Attention to detail and willingness to learn. Current knowledge of clinical practice, radiation protection, and quality assurance. Proficient knowledge of medical terminology. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficient computer software and database skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Comfortable asking probing questions to patients. Caring, compassionate, and patient attitude. Maintain HIPAA compliance. Multitasking and proactive problem-solving. Travel Must have the ability and willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region. Physical Requirements Able to sit, stand, or walk throughout the day. Intermittently required to stoop, bend, speak, and listen. Good general health and stress-coping ability.
