Data Analyst / Security Master & Reference Data Specialist

Our client a leading global investment firm is seeking a Data Analyst / Security Master & Reference Data Specialist to join its New York operations team. This position will focus on maintaining high-quality security and reference data across a complex investment platform and supporting the processes that ensure accurate information is available to downstream operational functions.

The role is particularly well suited for someone with experience supporting credit products, bank loans, leveraged finance, or other complex fixed income instruments who enjoys working with data, systems, and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the day-to-day review and maintenance of security and instrument data within the firm’s reference data environment
  • Review new securities and ensure required attributes are accurately captured and maintained throughout the security lifecycle
  • Investigate data discrepancies, perform validation checks, and work with internal and external partners to determine appropriate resolutions
  • Support reference data related to bank debt, leveraged loans, private credit, and other less-liquid instruments
  • Monitor changes to instruments and ensure relevant lifecycle events are reflected accurately in downstream systems
  • Handle events such as loan paydowns, drawdowns, interest rate changes, PIK activity, delayed compensation, and settlement-related updates
  • Work closely with Operations, Technology, Trading, Risk, and other stakeholders to resolve data and process issues
  • Partner with third-party data providers to research security characteristics, pricing/reference information, and other data discrepancies
  • Help develop and enhance operational controls, procedures, and documentation surrounding reference data
  • Participate in system and process improvement initiatives, including testing enhancements and helping translate business needs into technology requirements
  • Assist with the evaluation and implementation of new data sources, vendors, and products
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, streamline manual processes, and strengthen overall operational controls

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience within financial services, with a background in operations, reference data, security master, or a related function
  • Experience working with security master and/or reference data, ideally within an investment manager, hedge fund, broker-dealer, or similar financial institution
  • Strong understanding of bank debt, leveraged loans, private debt, or other complex credit instruments
  • Familiarity with the lifecycle of loans and fixed income securities and how changes impact operational and reference data
  • Experience using Bloomberg and exposure to financial data platforms such as Refinitiv, ICE, S&P Global/Markit, ClearPar, Wall Street Office, or comparable systems
  • Working knowledge of SQL and advanced proficiency with Excel
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to research issues and identify discrepancies in large or complex data sets
  • Experience working with business and technology teams to improve processes, controls, or systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with stakeholders at various levels
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and follow-through
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously
