We are looking for an Accountant to support a non-profit organization in Williamsburg, Virginia through a Long-term Contract opportunity. This role will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, resolving account discrepancies, and ensuring reliable reporting across key accounting areas. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with Workday and a solid foundation in core accounting operations, including reconciliations, journal activity, and ledger maintenance.

Responsibilities:
• Perform detailed reconciliations for accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, bank accounts, and general ledger balances to ensure financial accuracy.
• Prepare and post journal entries while maintaining proper supporting documentation and alignment with accounting standards.
• Review financial transactions for completeness and investigate variances, exceptions, or outstanding items in a timely manner.
• Support month-end and periodic close activities by validating account activity and confirming balances across multiple ledgers.
• Maintain accurate records within Workday and use the system to monitor, research, and resolve accounting issues.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to gather financial information, clarify discrepancies, and improve day-to-day accounting processes.

• At least 5 years of accounting experience in a hands-on finance or accounting role.

• Practical experience working with Workday in an accounting environment is required.

• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and journal entry preparation.

• Experience completing bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations with a high degree of accuracy.

• Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues efficiently.

• Proficiency with standard accounting practices and strong attention to detail in recordkeeping and reporting.
