Patient Access Technician

Position Summary The Patient Access Technician (PAT) is an exciting opportunity at MultiCare, responsible for ensuring accurate patient admission and registration. This intermediate‑level clerical position will allow you to apply your professional service‑orientation, good judgment and independent thinking in your daily work functions. Responsibilities Assure complete and accurate patient admissions/registrations according to organization policy and procedures and regulatory requirements. Obtain inpatient bed assignments and process inpatient admission, including arm banding, addressograph plate, and completion of necessary forms. Pre‑admit all scheduled inpatient, outpatient and ambulatory patients to facilitate a smooth and speedy admission/registration process. Obtain direct admit information and enter a reservation in the computer system to notify other areas. Complete comprehensive bedside or telephone interviews with the patient, relative, or their representative to obtain pertinent demographic, insurance and/or third‑party liability information. Perform eligibility verification and resolve any discrepancies, determine the need for financial assistance recommendation and application, referring to the Financial Counselor where necessary. Requirements Graduate of a health vocational program such as Patient Access, Medical Assistance, Medical Billing & Insurance. Or one (1) year of experience performing any combination of admitting, Health Unit Coordinator, patient registration, customer service, or billing duties; healthcare setting preferred. Pay and Benefit Expectations We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental, and retirement benefits, and paid time off. The pay scale is $22.79 - $31.27 USD. Pay is influenced by skill set, level of experience, certifications, and education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will reflect the appropriate step on the pay scale based on years of experience.
