Description
The Therapeutic Recreation Staff will be responsible for providing extensive unit-based therapeutic activities programming and a modest amount of hospital wide programming. The Therapeutic Recreational Staff will be expected to provide structured group experiences, individualized assessments and one on one treatment to patients. These interventions will allow the patients to develop and practice skill mastery in a number of areas, including, but not limited to, leisure, socialization, communication, and cognition. The Therapeutic Recreational Staff will work as an integral member of the interdisciplinary team to aid in the provision of psychiatric services. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.
Responsibilities:
- Provides structured group programming to units that address a variety of skill areas; including leisure, psychosocial behavior, task performance, cognitive, ADL and communication.
- Administers all mandatory parts of the assessment (as tolerated by client.)
- Is competent in administering all parts of the assessment this will be measured by supervisor via two observations throughout the year and ongoing review of evaluation write-ups
- Modifies assessment administration techniques as evaluation battery is modified over time.
- Documents reason for not administering parts of the assessment in the dictated report
- Understands rationale for using tests in assessment battery; be able to articulate rationale to treatment team; client; and public.
- Completes a comprehensive report that addresses areas of strengths; deficits; functional performance; client goals; necessary accommodation; and safety.
- Attends treatment team meeting following administration of assessment to discuss results.
- Formulates individualized treatment plan following administration of assessment and documents on master treatment plan.
- Provides individualized one on one treatment that targets goals identified on master treatment plan.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary treatment team members to provide comprehensive recreational therapy services.
- Attends other unit/program-based meetings in which clinical data is discussed.
- Contacts clinician/RN/MD weekly to provide ongoing consultation.
- Ensures appropriate release of information forms have been signed prior to releasing functional performance data.
- Provides specific information verbally or in writing to facilitate client treatment.
- Notifies HeIS of all requests for information from the medical record.
- Documents progress notes according to policy.
- Follows department; Nursing; Human Resources, and IDD policies and procedures.
- Completes duties and manages issues and concerns as directed by your supervisor; policies and procedures; safety officer; department head; and administration.
- Demonstrates professional behavior toward client, the family, the public, co-workers, supervisor, and student interns.
- Develop and maintain the ability to work collaboratively with others in an interdisciplinary work environment.
- Functions in role of Recreational Therapy consultant in order to educate other health care providers about recreational therapy and the recreational needs of our patients.
- Actively participates in Performance Improvement activities, in-service educational opportunities, research projects, and the student training program
- Attends weekly supervision to review clinical and administrative issues and concerns, as well as clients, and projects; brings an agenda.
- Productivity Standard of 80% of working time is patient care oriented.
- Attends departmental and unit team meetings to coordinate comprehensive activities and clinical services.
- Assist in maintaining a work environment free from recognized hazards that create a risk of injury to employees, patients or visitors and that all accidents and incidents are reported by employees and properly investigated. When appropriate, assist with the return of all workers with work related injuries and illnesses to gainful employment.
