At KANA, employees are more than staff members; they are part of a mission driven team committed to meaningful work, community impact, and long-term growth.Position OverviewThe Community Health Aide (CHA) provides primary, urgent, preventive, and emergent healthcare services in KANA-operated village clinics on Kodiak Island. This role supports seamless patient care coordination while managing day-to-day clinic operations, responding to after-hours emergencies, and promoting community health and wellness. The CHA works under standing orders in accordance with the electronic Community Health Aide Manual (eCHAM) and under the direction of the KANA Medical Director.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide primary, urgent, preventive, and emergent healthcare services in accordance with eCHAM, standing orders, and CHAP certification requirementsRespond to after-hours on-call emergencies following KANA emergency response protocolsCoordinate patient care, referrals, follow-up, and travel arrangementsConduct population health management activities including exams, screenings, labs, immunizations, and chronic disease monitoringDeliver patient education related to family planning, STIs, and other health conditionsParticipate in Village Response Team activities including training and emergency responseMaintain accurate and confidential medical records in the KANA Electronic Health Record (EHR)Manage clinic operations including inventory, supplies, administrative tasks, and sanitationTravel for training, clinic coverage, or emergency response (up to 28 days per year unless volunteering for additional assignments)Maintain CHAP certification, EMS credentials, and required continuing educationQualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentAbility to successfully complete CHAP training and certification requirementsWillingness to complete ongoing medical and EMS continuing educationStrong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to work independently in a rural setting and respond effectively in emergency situationsCurrent, valid driver's license with acceptable driving recordCHAP Certification (or ability to obtain and maintain)EMS and BLS/CPR certification as required through CHAP trainingWork ScheduleKANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (8.5 hours on site per day).Our ValuesKANA's work is guided by Courtesy, Caring, Respect, Sharing, and Pride.
