Job Summary Performs maintenance, modification, repairs electronic locking systems and devices, and mechanical locks throughout FIU Campuses. Installs, operates, troubleshoots, and repairs locking devices and/or electronic building access systems. Provides assistance to locksmith(s) in the maintenance and/or replacement of broken parts; exit device, rods and latches; card access programming via electronic device(s) throughout all housing residential halls. Assists with troubleshooting and minor maintenance of electronic lock/access systems. Provides assistance to locksmith(s) in cutting keys on key cutting machine from original or from manufacturers code when original is not available. Issues housing residential keys. Answers the telephone in the office unit. Assists customers with key requests or turning in key for credit. Files documents and helps to maintain records pertaining to the key control unit. Unlocks various tools and/or equipment such as doors, padlocks, desks and cabinets when assigned keys to University personnel are not available. Assists the Housing-Facilities unit with repair work orders in reference to various trades activities such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc. Performs general emergency duties connected to any and all aspects of related work such as required by the Housing Facilities supervisor. This may include such items as hurricane protection, barricading of ditches, roads, emergency lights, broken road signs, repairing leaks on a permanent or temporary basis and other duties as required. On occasion may be requested to assist with carpentry and masonry repairs. Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator. Performs other related duties are required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications Two (2) years of experience as locksmith or closely related experience.
