POSITION: Floating Custodian
LOCATION: District Locations
PAY RANGE: CD-1 Range, $20.49 - $30.10 per hour
CALENDAR: 260 Days, 8 Hours per day
WORK HOURS: Primarily 2 pm - 1030 pm with preferably ability to flex depending upon the needs of the week
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Lead Custodian, Director of Operations or Designee

SUMMARY:
Responsible for the cleanliness, sanitation, security, and basic maintenance of the assigned school building, grounds, and equipment. Ensure a safe and pleasant learning environment for students, staff, and the public. This position will float between all Mapleton Public School locations from day to day with varied work locations to meet coverage needs. While the position will primarily be 2pm-1030pm, there may be occasional needs to adjust the schedule to cover other buildings.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. The frequency and percentage of duties may vary based on building assignments or departments.

1. Clean buildings include classrooms, locker rooms, restrooms, offices, and hallways by removing trash, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, dusting, buffing, cleaning carpets, washing windows, and scrubbing floors. Complete minor maintenance work.
2. Assist staff, public, students, teachers, and community groups using the building during assigned shifts. Answer questions; respond to requests, and/or direct individuals to appropriate people or building areas.
3. Change light bulbs and filters; clean heating/cooling vents; inspect and adjust boilers for proper pressure settings; routinely examine water/air pipes and facility roof and structure for damage and leaks; and perform minor repairs to building, furniture, equipment, including changing ceiling tiles. Report building maintenance repairs to immediate supervisor and/or appropriate maintenance department.
4. Ensure building security by locking/unlocking doors at appropriate times, recognizing and correcting unsafe security conditions, or reporting conditions to appropriate personnel or authorities.
5. Set-up for school programs, meetings, assemblies, special events, and after-hours functions as requested. Move and set-up computers, public address system, audio-visual equipment, furniture, and lighting as needed.
6. Assist with routine ground duties including picking up trash; removing snow, ice, and gravel; and cleaning outside windows, doors, and lighting.
7. Respond to emergencies such as fire alarms, broken pipes, electrical shorts, and fires. Assist building staff as needed during emergencies to ensure students and staff safety.
8. Perform seasonal, summer, and project cleaning as planned and assigned by supervisor.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & EQUIPMENT:

• Basic oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to acquire skills necessary to operate various types of cleaning equipment.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changes without notice.
• Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.
• Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
• Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
• Operating knowledge of basic custodial equipment preferred at hire; required within 3 months after entering position.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, & REGISTRATIONS:

1. Valid Colorado driver's license
2. Criminal background check required for hire

SUPERVISORY/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITY:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities; however, acts as a resource for students, staff, and community leaders using the assigned building/facility by providing clean and safe learning environments, maintenance, and set-up for activities.


TRAINING:


Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education and for all public-school employees. Title IX training addresses harassment, discrimination, and bullying. Completing these mandatory Title IX training courses ensure we are meeting state requirements while continuing to foster a culture of safety and belonging across our schools.


JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING:
Work is assigned by supervisor and/or self. This position requires application of technical knowledge to evaluate, analyze, repair, or replace equipment; determine cost effectiveness; prioritize repairs; assess safety issues; and determine the impact decisions have on building occupants. Work is guided by District policies; technical specifications; and federal, state, or local codes and standards. Decision making requires collaboration with supervisors, coworkers, school staff, contractors, vendors, and design consultants. Errors in decision making could lead to uncomfortable, unsafe, and unhealthy learning environments; increased energy costs; serious injury or fatality; and liability issues. Supervisor is involved only in major decisions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
