Chief Engineer

DoubleTree Newark Airport, 128 Frontage Rd, Newark, NJ 07114, USA As Chief Engineer, you are responsible for the effective management of all engineering and maintenance operations within the hotel, including energy conservation. You are also responsible for developing the Engineering Team, ensuring compliance with regulations, and maintaining high hotel standards. Key Responsibilities Lead the Engineering Team in day‑to‑day operations, including service standards, equipment schedules, and work schedules. Coordinate with Housekeeping to prioritize maintenance for guest rooms and public areas. Develop systems and procedures to safeguard guests, team members, and property. Maintain communication with government agencies to ensure statutory compliance. Prepare Capital and Repairs & Maintenance budgets for Engineering. Conduct daily checks around the hotel and perform lift emergency release procedures as required. Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment within the hotel. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external customers. Ensure all hotel fixtures and fittings are safe, taking corrective action when needed. Develop, implement, and direct all emergency programs. Implement and manage energy conservation programs. Coordinate renovation bidding, define costs and scope, and oversee contractors to ensure quality and cost‑effectiveness. Perform special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned. Identify and introduce environmentally friendly systems and equipment. Monitor KPIs for the Engineering Department and take corrective action to improve inventory, audits, and productivity. Manage all team‑member related activities, including recruitment, performance management, training, career planning, disciplinary matters, and motivation. What We Are Looking For Advanced knowledge of building management/engineering. A degree in Engineering or a related field. Experience with budgeting and basic accounting. Positive attitude and strong communication skills. Commitment to delivering high levels of customer service. Strong leadership skills and prior experience managing a team. Excellent grooming standards. Flexibility to respond to diverse work situations. Ability to work under pressure and independently. Previous experience in facilities management. Advanced computer proficiency and relevant computer program knowledge. It would be advantageous if you have: First Aid certification. Qualification in an engineering field.
