Outlier helps the world's most innovative companies improve their AI models through high-quality human feedback. We're recruiting people who are blind or have low vision (BLV) to evaluate a new AI-powered real-time visual understanding feature - built for the BLV community, by people who live it.

What to Expect

You'll test a visual interpreter feature inside a conversational AI assistant. Using your Android phone's camera and voice, you'll ask the AI questions about your real surroundings - identifying objects, reading text, understanding a scene - and rate how accurate, helpful, and natural its responses are. Tasks are voice-driven and fully compatible with screen readers and assistive technology.

Who Should Apply?

This opportunity is designed for people who are blind or have low vision and regularly use assistive technology to navigate daily life. We especially encourage applications from people who use:

• Screen readers such as VoiceOver, TalkBack, JAWS, or NVDA
• AI-powered visual assistance apps such as Be My Eyes, Seeing AI, Envision AI, or Google Lookout
• Braille displays or other tactile output devices
• Magnification tools or high-contrast display settings as a primary accessibility aid

Requirements

• Blind or low vision, with lived daily experience navigating the world without full reliance on sight
• Regular user of at least one assistive technology tool (screen reader, AI vision app, Braille display, or similar)
• Android smartphone with a working camera (required)
• Native fluency in English
• Comfortable using voice to interact with AI assistants

Nice to Haves

• Prior experience evaluating or providing feedback on accessibility tools or AI products
• Familiarity with multiple assistive technologies across platforms (iOS, Android, Windows)
• Experience as a disability advocate, accessibility tester, or orientation and mobility specialist

What You'll Do

• Use your Android phone's camera and voice to ask an AI assistant questions about real-world scenes, objects, and text
• Rate the AI's responses on accuracy, helpfulness, and whether they give you the spatial and directional information you actually need
• Flag responses that are incorrect, misleading, or unhelpful - especially in safety-critical situations like medication identification or obstacle detection
• Provide open-ended feedback on how the AI could better serve BLV users
• Complete a brief verification call as part of onboarding

Payment

Currently, pay rates for core project work are up to $35 USD per hour.

Note: Candidates based in Texas, Illinois, or Washington are currently not eligible.

This is a 1099 contract opportunity on the Outlier.ai platform. Because this is a freelance opportunity, we do not offer internships, sponsorship, or employment.
