Job Overview

REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and scholar-centered Behavior Interventionist to join our Elementary School team.

The Behavior Interventionist will provide direct behavioral support to scholars whose social, emotional, and/or behavioral needs may interfere with their academic success. This position will work closely with the Behavior Specialist, Dean of Scholars, school counselors, classroom teachers, administrators, families, and other members of the scholar support team to help scholars develop the skills necessary to be successful in the classroom and school community.

The Behavior Interventionist will support the implementation of individualized behavior interventions, collect and monitor behavioral data, provide direct scholar support, and collaborate with staff to implement consistent, positive, and evidence-based behavioral strategies.

In addition to supporting individual scholars, the Behavior Interventionist will play an active role in promoting PBIS to create a positive, engaging, and supportive school culture for both scholars and staff. The ideal candidate is creative, enthusiastic, relationship-driven, and willing to contribute ideas and energy to activities that build community and make REACH a welcoming and enjoyable place to learn and work.

The ideal candidate believes deeply in the potential of every child and understands that behavior is a form of communication. This individual should be patient, consistent, flexible, and committed to helping scholars develop positive behaviors, self-regulation skills, and strategies that allow them to fully participate in learning.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrates alignment with REACH Academy Charter School's mission and a strong belief that every scholar can achieve at high levels with appropriate support.
  • Understands child development and the social-emotional and behavioral needs of elementary-aged scholars.
  • Has knowledge of positive behavior interventions & supports (PBIS), behavior management strategies, restorative practices, and evidence-based behavioral interventions.
  • Understands the function of scholar behavior and how that information can be used to select appropriate interventions and supports.
  • Has working knowledge of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and individualized behavioral supports.
  • Understands how to collect and use behavioral data to monitor scholar progress and adjust interventions.
  • Builds strong, positive relationships with scholars while maintaining clear, consistent expectations and boundaries.
  • Uses proactive, restorative, and developmentally appropriate approaches to scholar behavior.
  • Demonstrates patience and the ability to remain calm, professional, and solution-focused when responding to challenging behaviors.
  • Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills and works collaboratively with scholars, families, teachers, administrators, counselors, and support staff.
  • Is creative, enthusiastic, and willing to contribute ideas that strengthen scholar and staff culture.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to equity, inclusion, confidentiality, and high professional and ethical standards.
  • Is organized, dependable, flexible, and able to maintain accurate documentation and behavioral data.
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Has a passion for working with children and serving scholars in an urban education environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct behavioral support to individual scholars throughout the school day, including within classrooms and during less-structured times such as arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with scholars and help them develop behavioral, social-emotional, and self-regulation skills that support success in school.
  • Observe scholar behavior across school settings to identify patterns, triggers, antecedents, and effective supports.
  • Assist the Behavior Specialist and scholar support team in gathering information and data used to develop individualized behavioral interventions and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Implement Behavior Intervention Plans and individualized behavioral supports consistently and with fidelity.
  • Collect, maintain, and review behavioral data to monitor scholar progress, identify trends, and determine the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to implement proactive strategies that promote positive behavior and maximize instructional time.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate replacement behaviors, coping strategies, emotional regulation, problem-solving, conflict-resolution skills, and positive social interactions.
  • Respond to behavioral situations and assist with de-escalation using safe, appropriate, and scholar-centered strategies.
  • Help scholars reflect on behavioral choices, repair harm when appropriate, and successfully transition back into the classroom following behavioral incidents or periods of dysregulation.
  • Recognize and reinforce positive scholar behavior, effort, growth, and achievement.
  • Support school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), restorative practices, and other school culture initiatives.
  • Communicate scholar progress and behavioral trends with the Behavior Specialist, Dean of Scholars, counselors, teachers, administrators, and families as appropriate.
  • Participate in scholar support, behavior, and data meetings to ensure coordinated support for scholars.
  • Work collaboratively with the Behavior Specialist, Dean of Scholars, school counselors, classroom teachers, Special Education staff, and school administration.
  • Help maintain a safe, structured, inclusive, welcoming, and nurturing school environment.
School Culture & Community
  • Actively contribute to building and maintaining a positive school culture for both scholars and staff.
  • Collaborate with staff to brainstorm and implement creative monthly or seasonal activities that build school spirit, strengthen relationships, recognize accomplishments, and make school fun and engaging.
  • Assist with scholar-focused activities and celebrations such as Flowergrams for Valentine's Day, special treats or breakfasts during state testing, recognition activities, spirit events, and other creative incentives and celebrations.
  • Help develop fun and engaging staff culture activities that promote morale and connection, such as staff challenges, appreciation activities, games, celebrations, and other team-building ideas.
  • Bring creativity and new ideas to the team and take an active role in helping plan, prepare, organize, and carry out culture-building activities.
  • Support school-wide events, celebrations, incentives, and special activities throughout the school year.
  • Help create an environment where scholars and staff feel welcomed, recognized, supported, and excited to be part of the REACH community.
  • Participate in professional development and remain current on effective behavioral intervention practices and strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Behavioral Science, Special Education, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, behavioral, counseling, mental health, youth development, or similar setting.
  • Experience supporting children with behavioral and/or social-emotional needs strongly preferred.
  • Experience implementing Behavior Intervention Plans, i ndividualized behavioral supports, and PBIS preferred.
  • Experience collecting and documenting scholar behavioral data preferred.
  • Knowledge of PBIS, restorative practices, de-escalation strategies, social-emotional learning, and evidence-based behavioral interventions preferred.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with scholars while maintaining clear, consistent expectations and boundaries.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary scholar support team.
  • Belief in and alignment with REACH Academy Charter School's core beliefs and educational philosophy.
Salary

Compensation is in accordance with REACH Academy Charter School's established salary step scale and verification of prior years of applicable experience. For reference, Step 1 starts at $45,000 and Step 11 is $65,830.
