LifeguardThis temporary position reports to the Swimming Pool Supervisor. If the Swimming Pool Supervisor is not on site, the lifeguard reports to the Lead Lifeguard. Lifeguards are responsible for providing for the patrons' safety by monitoring patron behaviors, enforcing all facility rules and regulations, and setting an example of safe water habits at the aquatic facility. Primary duties include educating the public to promote habits and attitudes that lead to safe recreation, using preventative lifeguarding techniques, enforcing safety rules, and responding to emergencies in an appropriate manner.Employees must be able to work as part of an overall staff team and independently, without direct supervision. Employees must be responsible, trustworthy, and able to deal appropriately with the public in difficult situations. Lifeguards may be required to work special events, evenings, weekends, and split shifts.The employee is subject to an annual written evaluation and must be able to accept constructive feedback. A background check is a condition of employment.This position has variable hours and no benefits.Essential FunctionsArrive and be ready to work on time.Be physically, mentally and emotionally ready to guard.Wear a uniform (lifeguard shirt, shorts, swimsuit, emergency fanny pack, and whistle).Responsible for all personal equipment issued.Enforce and educate participants on the rules and policies of the Renton School District.Attend and participate fully in all in-service training programs.Keep training records up to date.Know and respond quickly to assigned responsibilities in an emergency using the appropriate Emergency Action Plan (EAP).When necessary, administer First Aid and follow standard procedures to prevent the spread of bloodborne pathogens.Report any unsafe situations or conditions to the Swimming Pool Supervisor.Report any damage to the facility or equipment, incidents, and injuries using appropriate forms in an accurate and timely manner.Effectively work with the other staff members as a team.Record daily, while on duty, all requested information on individual time sheet.Perform light facility custodial maintenance as required.Perform facility staging for various programmed activities.Provide quality customer service to patrons and staff.Collect fees and process registrations using a computerized system for various recreation classes and programs.Complete any assignments issued by the Swimming Pool Supervisor.Ability ToHave willingness to be helpful and willing to use verbal and non-verbal behavior to show an open, accepting attitude.Perform required strenuous activity.Be in a hot and humid indoor environment.Perform duties involving physical labor, such as bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, twisting, and swimming.Respond appropriately and assist during emergency situations.Lift 50 poundsQualificationsAmerican Red Cross Certifications in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid preferred (District will provide training)Must be at least 15 years of age.Work effectively and have the ability to communicate with the public and co-workers in a positive, service-focused manner.Follow written and oral instructions.Possess knowledge of aquatic programs and safety procedures
