Summary

Verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment; coordinates drivers’ activities; verifies that deliveries are made to the correct location and prepares items for shipping by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities ( Other duties may be assigned.)

· Responsible to maintain an environment of human dignity and ethical behavior with our associates, families, customers, suppliers, and communities.

· Responsible to maintain a safe and healthy work environment. Unsafe conditions or acts are to be corrected in a timely fashion.

· Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records.

· Determines method of shipment.

· Affixes shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons.

· Assembles containers or selects preassembled containers.

· Inserts items into containers.

· Nails covers on wooden crates and binds containers with tape.

· Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers.

· Posts weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage.

· Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper to rectify damages and shortages.

· Routes items to departments.

· Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications.

· Maintains inventory of shipping materials and supplies.

· Operates tier lift truck or uses hand-truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area.

· Studies shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules.

· Determines space requirements and position of shipment in trucks and lays out position of shipment.

· Verifies loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications, and seals loaded truck doors.

· Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair.

· Maintains vehicle maintenance report.

· Compiles records of unfilled orders.

· Posts weight and shipping charges.

· Prepares bills of lading.

· Issues written and oral instructions.

· Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of drivers.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 1-2 employees in the Delivery Area. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The associate must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this Job, the associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The associate is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment; such as safety shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
