User Interface DesignerLocation: Providence Rhode IslandThe User Interface Designer works to develop, maintain, and support the AMS website and digital products at every stage of product development. They find creative solutions that improve the user experience. This position prototypes, designs, and builds user interfaces for the AMS website and related communication mediums. They collaborate with the Web Working Group and software developers to produce visually aesthetic, highly usable web content and web interfaces. The User Interface Designer will have considerable knowledge of the AMS website, our electronic products, and the Society's mission. They are very comfortable with using AI tools to assist in their daily work.Essential Functions:Design wireframes, high-fidelity mockups, and rapid prototypes.Create functional, easy-to-use, and innovative web interfaces.Maintain and improve responsive web content.Assist in the analysis of AMS website usage metrics via Google Analytics and propose recommendations where needed.Understand and work within web style guidelines.Establish and maintain website accessibility standards.Communicate with content providers to assure they adhere to web style guidelines and accessibility standards.Write clear and concise documentation of new web design processes.Other duties as assigned.Travel: 10% Some travel may be required for the purpose of off-site professional developmentInternal and External Relationships:Works primarily within the IT – Software Engineering departmentAre a member of the Web Working Group and the Web Strategy GroupSupports all staff with website related help desk requests.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceProven UI design experience with a strong portfolioExpert in HTML and CSS codingAdvanced user of AI toolsProficiency in:Adobe Create SuiteBootstrap 3 and forwardWordPressWorking knowledge of content management systemsBasic understanding of JavaScriptWillingness and ability to learn accessibility standards.Experience with typography a plusExperience with graphic and multimedia design a plusAttributes and Competencies:Demonstrates understanding of organization's mission, structure, culture, and constituencies.Demonstrates knowledge of own department's work activities and mission; understands how own job impacts work of department.Responds positively to changes in the organization and the workplace.Demonstrates and communicates respect for the opinions and beliefs of other people at all levels and fosters a climate of mutual respect.Plans and organizes work effectively.Accepts accountability for job performance and results.Works effectively with others in a variety of settingsUses communication tools effectively (e.g., presentation, verbal, writing, relationship building, negotiating, listening) to meet needs of audience and/or situation.Maintains professional composure in challenging situations.Exercises discretion in identifying, handling, and safeguarding confidential information.Addresses issues constructively, building cooperative relationships within and across departments.Receptive to feedback and willing to try different approaches in order to achieve the best results.Physical Demands:Performing primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and lifting up to 25 lbs.Duties performed cause light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting or repetitive motion.Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other devicesCapable of reliable attendance in the office during scheduled work hoursWork Environment/Conditions:On-call availability to support production systemsTypical office environment, climate-controlled, minimal noise.Extended work hours may be required to meet project deadlines or resolve unexpected problems.This position is required to be in-office.EOE StatementThe American Mathematical Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
