This role is responsible for designing, governing, and guiding secure, resilient, and cost-effective cloud architectures, with a primary focus on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and support for Microsoft Azure, ensuring these platforms can reliably support always-on, customer- and field-facing systems.Operating at the intersection of architecture, delivery, operations, and governance, this position holds decision authority for cloud design choices that directly influence system reliability, operational resilience, cybersecurity posture, capital protection, and regulatory compliance. The decisions made in this role have tangible, real-world impact affecting outage response, field execution, safety, and the continuity of essential utility services.As a trusted architectural leader, this position enables teams to move quickly while ensuring solutions remain secure by design, resilient by default, and operationally sound. This role strengthens the digital backbone of utility operations technology, connecting field crews, engineers, planners, and operators through mission-critical systems that support power generation, asset and work management, grid operations, and customer outcomes where failure is not an option.Key Responsibilities:Develop solution architectures supporting business initiatives and operational objectives.Translate business, technical, security, and operational requirements into detailed solution designs.Produce architecture diagrams, design documentation, technical specifications, and implementation guidance.Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards, patterns, and reference architectures.Participate in architecture reviews and technology evaluations.Design secure and scalable cloud-based solutions leveraging AWS and Azure services.Support cloud migration and modernization efforts through architecture guidance and design reviews.Apply approved cloud design patterns for networking, identity, compute, storage, monitoring, and resiliency.Partner with engineering teams to implement cloud solutions that meet performance, security, and operational requirements.Incorporate security-by-design principles into solution architectures.Ensure compliance with enterprise security standards, regulatory requirements, and control objectives.Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to address risks, vulnerabilities, and remediation strategies.Research emerging technologies and evaluate applicability to business needs.Provide technical consultation and recommendations to project teams and business stakeholders.Contribute to proof-of-concept activities and technology assessments.Support vendor evaluations and product selection decisions.Partner with project managers, engineers, business analysts, and operational teams throughout project lifecycles.Support implementation teams by resolving design questions and architectural issues.Act as a technical resource and mentor for less experienced team members.Education/Experience/Certifications:Education Requires a bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering management or equivalent work experience in related discipline.Experience Typically, five or more years in solution architecture, systems engineering, infrastructure, software engineering, or related disciplines.Certifications, Licenses and Training AWS Solution Architect, TOGAF, ITIL, ARCHIMATE certification preferred.Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):Intermediate knowledge of quality and conformance frameworks.Intermediate knowledge of specification and design of information systems.Basic knowledge of emerging technologies.Working knowledge of the business areas and functions.Intermediate knowledge of IT/business strategies.Intermediate customer focus skills.Intermediate accuracy skills.Intermediate risk management skills.Intermediate oral and written communication skills.Intermediate interpersonal skills.Intermediate decision-making skills.Intermediate organization and prioritization skills.Physical and Cognitive Demands - For both Levels:Ability to adhere to set response times, deadlines and time-sensitive tasks.Ability to follow accuracy standards.Ability to follow through on decision-making tasks.Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.Ability to communicate and problem solve when under stress.Ability to respond and adapt to frequent change.Ability to accept and demonstrate self-awareness when provided constructive feedback.Ability to discern feedback and acknowledge ownership of areas of improvement.Ability to avoid future mistakes by applying reasonable skills to new but similar work situations or tasks.Ability to successfully collaborate with peers, managers and others within the organization.Demonstrates sound memory.Ability to process new information to be applied consistently to work tasks.Schedule/Attendance:Ability to adhere to pre-established schedule, including start/stop time and break/lunch schedule.Ability to work long hours.Ability to work a variable schedule.Ability to report to work and perform work during periods of severe inclement weather.Ability to consistently meet attendance standards for regular, reliable, predictable, full-time attendance.Ability to work shift schedule.Ability to work on-call schedule.Physical Capabilities:Driving/travel/commute: Daily within service territory - Frequently (at least once a week or more)Driving/travel/commute: Overnight inside/outside the service territory - Occasionally (one to two times a month or less)Computer use (use computer regularly for entire work shift)Lifting/pushing/pulling: Up to 10 lbs.Carrying: Up to 10 lbs.Environment - OfficeActual total compensation, including a performance based incentive bonus, is commensurate with experience, skills, qualifications, education, training, and internal equity.PGE believes in rewarding dedicated performance.
