Psychologist

Position Overview We are seeking a clinical psychologist to join our expanding Adult Outpatient Psychiatry and Behavioral Health service at Stony Brook University Hospital. The role involves providing comprehensive, evidence-based mental health services to a diverse population across the lifespan, within ambulatory outpatient psychiatry and behavioral health clinics. Ideal candidates will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care and collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment to advance health equity and improve access to behavioral health services. Responsibilities Direct patient care (≥90% effort) including diagnostic evaluations, individual and group psychotherapy, and consults. Non‑clinical activities (≤10% effort) may include research or academic duties. The psychologist will serve across Stony Brook Medicine locations and may join the integrated care program delivering psychiatry and behavioral health within primary care settings (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Neurology, Women’s Health, and the Cancer Center). The position may also involve teaching and supervision of externs, interns, postdoctoral fellows, psychiatry residents, and medical students. Engagement in scholarly projects is encouraged and may support academic promotion. Qualifications Required Qualifications PhD/PsyD (or foreign equivalent) in Clinical Psychology from an APA‑accredited program or PCSAS‑accredited program. Experience engaging in evidence‑based treatment modalities. New York State Clinical Psychologist license or eligibility. Pass the EPPP (Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology) at the time of application. Completed all post‑doctoral clinical hours prior to employment start date. Preferred Qualifications Clinical experience or training in treating complex mental health issues, including schizophrenia/psychotic disorders, intellectual/developmental disabilities, personality disorders, treatment‑resistant depression, geriatric mood disorders, and/or complex PTSD. Experience with time‑limited goal‑oriented therapies, including cognitive behavioral therapy and short‑term psychodynamic/relational and attachment‑based therapies. Experience in an adult outpatient behavioral health program, an integrated primary care program, or a consultation and liaison program. Bilingual clinicians are encouraged to apply. Supervisory experience. Benefits and Work Arrangements Full‑time schedule (40 hours/week) with a flexible hybrid model and possible evening hours, including appointments via telehealth. The role is subject to the Stony Brook Hospital telehealth policy and requires the psychologist and patient to be located in New York State.
