Service Technician for Maintenance C Shift: Wednesday 11:45pm-6am Thursday-Saturday 5:45pm-6am

 

The Plant Service Technician’s prime responsibility is the maintenance, repair, and continuous improvement of all Plant Service systems, including boiler, compressed air and refrigeration, in a safe and efficient manner. The elimination of breakdowns is of prime importance. The maintenance mechanic will report to and provide a daily summary of work to the Maintenance Supervisor/Manager and will be assigned work by the maintenance planner as needed. This position has a requirement to do some overtime when requested. The mechanic will be an active member of the maintenance team. This job does not directly supervise anyone, but may indirectly supervise an apprentice millwright or production helper on an infrequent basis.

ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Repairs, replaces, corrects or affects equipmen t as needed to ensure equipment operates correctly and efficiently according to production requirements. 

Consults with engineers and vendors as needed . Accomplishes layout work for each project as needed. Will be able to troubleshoot equipment. 

Meets safety requirements in accomplishing responsibilities of this position complying with all policies or regulations set forth by Simmons or various government agencies concerning safety, environment, vehicle, handling of food products, packaging, ingredients and any related items.

Participates as a member of the Team . Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy possible within the larger organization.

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives : Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities : Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Must be able to manually lift or move objects weighing 75-150 pounds. Must be able to work in extreme temperatures, on feet for the entire shift. Must be able to work in cramped, enclosed, elevated, wet, dirty area with a noise level above 90 decibels. 

Travel : NA

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) : Will use appropriate footwear, hearing protection and other protective equipment as needed or required. 

Technical Experience : Must have experience or vocational training in welding, electrical or mechanical repair, and refrigeration or hydraulics. 

Preferred Technical Experience : Mid to Senior Level experience in industrial engineering, electrical, and mechanical repair highly desired.  

Industry Experience : Preference for poultry or food processing organization.

Minimum Education : High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have a good command of the English language, both written and spoken. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.

Preferred Education : Technical College or Vocational training 

Preferred Technical Experience : Mid to Senior Level experience in industrial engineering, electrical, and mechanical repair highly desired.  

Competencies : Communication skills & decision quality - Must have the ability to make good decisions and communicate effectively with others and leadership team.
