Associate Distribution Engineer Location: Wilmington, NC (226 North Front St., Suite 155) Duration: 6 Months Pay Rate: $30.00/hr on W2 Job Summary
We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to support electrical distribution system projects (overhead, underground, and URD) ranging from 4kV through 138kV. Working under a technical lead, you will develop construction work packages, perform engineering calculations, conduct field inspections, and support grid modernization, reliability, and maintenance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
We are seeking an Associate Distribution Engineer to support electrical distribution system projects (overhead, underground, and URD) ranging from 4kV through 138kV. Working under a technical lead, you will develop construction work packages, perform engineering calculations, conduct field inspections, and support grid modernization, reliability, and maintenance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Engineering: Develop construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground systems using GIS, CAD, and Work Management Systems.
- Calculations & Analysis: Perform engineering calculations including pole loading/structural analysis, guying, conductor sag/tension, voltage drop, and flicker.
- Permitting & Compliance: Prepare permitting documents for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Field & Construction Support: Conduct site inspections, perform post-construction reviews, and assist with root-cause analysis for power outages.
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an engineering field with less than 2 years of relevant experience; OR
- Non-engineering BS degree with less than 5 years of relevant experience.
- Preferred Skills: Familiarity with NESC Standards, ESRI, AutoCAD/MicroStation, and GIS.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Work Conditions: Strong communication skills, willingness to perform both field and office work (including outdoor environments), ability to utilize a personal vehicle, and capacity for occasional overnight travel (10-20%).
