We are excited to share that our organization is taking a significant step by internalizing a key component of our Oncology program. We are in search of a seasoned, innovative, and collaborative Board-Certified Hematologist/Medical Oncologist to take on the role of the first Medical Director for Hematology and Medical Oncology at our primary hospital campus in Arlington, Virginia.

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties:
- Deliver comprehensive outpatient and inpatient hematology and medical oncology care
- Assess and manage patients with solid tumors and both benign and malignant hematologic disorders
- Create personalized treatment plans using chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive oncology services
- Conduct new patient consultations, follow-up visits, treatment monitoring, and survivorship planning
- Participate in shared call coverage and inpatient oncology consultations
- Work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure evidence-based cancer care
- Analyze pathology, imaging, molecular testing, and laboratory data to inform treatment decisions
- Address treatment-related toxicities and symptom management
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
Leadership Responsibilities:
- Program Development & Growth:
- Lead the growth and development of the hematology and medical oncology service line
- Establish clinical workflows, operational frameworks, and care delivery models
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning and market expansion
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and retaining physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs)
- Build relationships with referring physicians and regional healthcare partners
- Identify opportunities for program expansion and community outreach
- Clinical Leadership:
- Set evidence-based clinical standards, pathways, and best practices
- Lead multidisciplinary tumor boards and cancer conferences
- Encourage high-quality, coordinated, patient-centered oncology care
- Support integration across inpatient, outpatient, infusion, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology services
- Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to physicians, APPs, nursing staff, and other personnel
- Quality & Accreditation:
- Oversee oncology quality initiatives, outcomes tracking, and performance improvement efforts
- Ensure compliance with Commission on Cancer (CoC) standards and accreditation requirements
- Monitor clinical quality metrics, peer review activities, patient experience scores, and operational benchmarks
- Advocate for patient safety, regulatory compliance, and evidence-based oncology practices
- Operational & Administrative Leadership:
- Collaborate with hospital leadership on oncology operations, staffing, workflow optimization, and service integration
- Engage in budget planning, operational strategy, and resource development
- Support infusion center operations, scheduling optimization, and clinic efficiency initiatives
- Act as the primary physician liaison between oncology providers and health system leadership
Qualifications
- MD or DO from an accredited medical institution
- Completion of an ACGME-accredited Hematology/Medical Oncology fellowship
- Board Certification in Medical Oncology is required
- Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia
- A minimum of 5 years of post-training clinical oncology experience is strongly preferred
- Previous leadership experience as a Medical Director, Associate Medical Director, Program Director, or oncology service-line leader is preferred
- Demonstrated experience in program development, clinical operations, or oncology growth initiatives is strongly preferred
- A commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, quality improvement, and patient-centered care
