This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule, which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked. This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Instructional Technology Coach is to assist teachers with the integration of technology in the classroom, to train teachers to use technology in an effective manner, and to assist with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology. The ITC is to be a “first responder” in the case of technical problems at schools, performing software, and hardware repairs and referring others to the Service Request Database as needed. The ITC provides assistance by consulting with other teachers, discussing and sharing teaching practices, and supporting efforts to enrich student learning through technology. Instructional technologycoaches are available throughout the school day for planning and implementation of integration activities. Instructional technologycoaches are intended to serve as resources to classroom teachers, but are not intended to serve as classroom teachers.QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold a Collegiate Professional Licensewith a specific endorsement in the area to which assigned. The ITC must demonstrate the ability and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school personnel and members of the community. He/she must possess the ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, teachers, administrators, and students. The ITC must be knowledgeable about successful integration of technology into the classroom, including new and emerging technologies. He/she must have the ability to diagnose and solve minor computer, peripheral, and network problems. The ITC must be able to communicate effectively with adult learners. The ITC must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and be a licensed teacher. Successful experience in public education as a teacher is recommended. He/she must have experience in integrating technology in the classroom. He/she must have experience using computers and peripherals effectively in a classroom setting including, but not limited to, printers, scanners, external storage devices, video equipment, such as digital cameras and computer projection devices. He/she must stay current with new and emerging technologies.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks: Assists teachers and staff, grades PK-12, with the integration of technology in the classroom; provides in-service to groups of teachers/staff as well as individualized assistance as requested. Provides technology-training opportunities throughout the school year for teachers and staff to use technology in an effective manner. Be an effective listener, keen observer and positive communicator who works with teachers on their level and develops skills to reach higher levels of functioning. ITCs should interact with core area teachers regularly. During these meetings the ITC assists teachers in planning lessons, which integrate technology into student learning. The technology should be used in the context of core lessons, not as an add-on to lessons. Supports implementation of the division and state technology plan. Assists with curriculum development as it relates to educational technology. Meets with district and building level administrators to communicate visions of technology integration and to select appropriate software and web services. Maintains school-based webpages as assigned. Provides demonstration teaching to students and teachers in the appropriate use of technology in the classrooms and/or computer labs. Modeling of lessons should be aimed at giving the core teachers ownership of the learning and instruction. Examines and recommends computer hardware and software to teachers and administrators, and makes them accessible for students and teachers. Solves minor problems related to hardware and software issues in classrooms, labs, and school offices and refers teachers to the Service Request Database in the case of more technically challenging problems. Keeps current with updates in educational technology. Develops a rich library of curriculum-driven support materials and technology-enhanced resources for grade levels and subject areas for teachers. Performs related duties as assigned in accordance with the school/system policies and practices.
