Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) - Outpatient

Position Overview

The outpatient PTA delivers rehabilitation services in a clinic setting under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. The role focuses on improving mobility, strength, and functional independence for a broad patient population.

The core purpose is to implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and promote safe return-to-activity through structured therapy sessions.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient evaluation and treatment planning under PT supervision.
• Conduct therapeutic exercises, gait training, and functional activities.
• Administer modalities and monitor patient response and safety.
• Document treatment sessions and progress in the EHR; communicate changes to the PT and care team.
• Educate patients on home exercise programs and activity modifications.
• Coordinate with front-desk and clinical staff to manage appointment flow and patient experience.
• Assist with equipment setup and maintenance in the clinic.
• Support discharge planning and referrals as needed.

Qualifications

Education:

Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Licensure:

Current state licensure as Physical Therapist Assistant per state requirements.

Certifications:

• CPR/BLS certification required.

Experience or Skills:

Experience in outpatient rehabilitation; strong communication and documentation skills.

Experience

• 2-4 years of PTA experience in outpatient clinics.
• Experience implementing PT plans of care and documenting progress.

Preferred

• Experience with pediatric or geriatric populations; knowledge of assistive devices and home exercise program design.

Work Environment

Clinic-based setting with steady patient flow; collaborative team including PTs, front office, and other rehab staff.

Regular daytime hours with ongoing documentation and patient education responsibilities.
