Senior VxRail Solution Architect / Resident Engineer
Location: Frederick, Maryland – Hybrid
Schedule: Onsite Tuesdays and Thursdays
Clearance: Extensive background check may be required for entry
Position Overview
The Senior VxRail Solution Architect will provide transitional and operational support for enterprise hyper-converged infrastructure environments. This role requires strong expertise in Dell VxRail, VMware technologies, data protection, infrastructure administration, and customer knowledge transfer.
The consultant will help guide customers through the adoption and operation of VxRail infrastructure, support integration with PowerProtect Data Manager, and provide technical leadership across transition, implementation, and ongoing operational activities.
Key Responsibilities VxRail and VMware Administration- Administer, monitor, and support Dell VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure.
- Manage and maintain VMware components, including:
- VMware vCenter
- VMware vSphere
- VMware vSAN Enterprise
- VMware SDDC Manager
- VxRail Manager
- VMware Aria/vRealize Enterprise Suite
- VMware NSX
- Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability.
- Review infrastructure logs and operational reports.
- Support host, cluster, network, and virtual infrastructure configuration.
- Assist with incremental configuration activities beyond initial deployment scope.
- Support integration of VxRail infrastructure with Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance DM5500.
- Assist with backup, recovery, and data-protection configuration.
- Troubleshoot integration and operational issues between VMware, VxRail, and PowerProtect environments.
- Support migration and transition activities from existing virtual infrastructure platforms.
- Lead transition activities from deployment teams to customer operations teams.
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks, procedures, and system documentation.
- Provide day-to-day operational guidance and technical leadership.
- Assist with incident, problem, and change management activities.
- Coordinate service incidents and vendor support requests.
- Participate in root-cause analysis and corrective-action planning.
- Support software, firmware, and infrastructure lifecycle management.
- Conduct knowledge-transfer sessions for customer technical staff.
- Train administrators on new technology features, management tools, and standard operating procedures.
- Address customer skills and resource gaps through mentoring and technical guidance.
- Provide recommendations for product enhancements, upgrades, and operational improvements.
- Help establish repeatable processes for infrastructure administration and support.
- Review existing IT processes and operational policies.
- Recommend improvements for incident, capacity, performance, change, user, and backup management.
- Identify opportunities to optimize procedures and infrastructure performance.
- Share industry best practices and lessons learned from comparable environments.
- Provide performance-tuning and service-improvement recommendations.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Dell VxRail and VMware environments.
- Strong knowledge of VMware configuration, administration, and management.
- Experience with the following technologies:
- VxRail Manager
- VMware vCenter
- VMware vSphere
- VMware vSAN Enterprise
- VMware SDDC Manager
- VMware Aria/vRealize Enterprise Suite
- VMware NSX
- Experience supporting PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance DM5500 or comparable enterprise backup platforms.
- Experience with transitional and operational support for enterprise infrastructure.
- Strong troubleshooting, incident coordination, and problem-management skills.
- Experience developing technical documentation, runbooks, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to lead customer engagements and provide technical direction.
- Strong communication, mentoring, and knowledge-transfer abilities.
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Experience with RecoverPoint.
- Experience supporting Dell EMC infrastructure and system-management tools.
- Experience with hyper-converged infrastructure migrations or platform transitions.
- Knowledge of enterprise backup, disaster recovery, and business-continuity solutions.
- Experience working with federal, defense, or other regulated IT environments.
- Familiarity with compliance, governance, and infrastructure operational policies.
