Tax Managing Director, Alternative Investments (Los Angeles)

Job Summary:This role in our Alternative Investments practice assists in providing tax compliance & consulting services to our Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients. Job Duties:Tax ComplianceEnsures both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”).Applies understanding of client’s unique set of circumstances, documentation, and/or other requirements mandated by law and prepares required filings (tax returns) using a system of review and documentation to ensure that the client is in full compliance, while keeping the client’s tax and reporting burden’s as low as possible;Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected; identifies and properly communicates missing items to prepare return;Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax prep processEffectively collaborates with Principals, Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates on completion of project (follow-up with Open items list)Delivers high quality federal, state, and international tax compliance servicesLeads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and the budget for projectsBuilds and manages client relationships; assist in developing new clients and opportunitiesEnsures/Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax fileTax ConsultingIdentifies, develops, recommends, and implements efficient and effective tax strategiesSupervisory Responsibilities:Manages teams of Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Education:Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, required Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation, preferredExperience:Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience, requiredFinancial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including: Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds, preferred Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships, preferredLicense/Certifications:CPA or Licensed Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent, required CFP or Masters in Tax, preferredSoftware:Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook), and Adobe Acrobat, preferredExperience with tax research databases, preferredProficient in tax compliance process software, preferredLanguage:N/AOther Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Superior verbal and written communication skillsAbility to effectively delegate work as neededStrong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skillsCapacity to work well in a team environmentCapable of developing and managing a team of tax professionalsAbility to compose written tax adviceCapable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationshipsExecutive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clientsIndividual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.California Range: $190,000 - $335,000Colorado Range: $170,000 - $225,000Illinois Range: $175,000 - $250,000Maryland Range: $185,000 - $260,000Massachusetts Range: $215,000 - $300,000Minnesota Range: $170,000 - $250,000New Jersey Range: $190,000 - $350,000NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $230,000 - $350,000Washington Range: $180,000 - $240,000Washington DC Range: $190,000 - $300,000Join us at BDO, where you will find more than a career, you’ll find a place where your work is impactful, and you are valued for your individuality.
