Junior ParalegalThe CAO Junior Paralegal will provide support to the CAO Legal team that includes managing matters assigned by the CAO General Counsel, Senior Paralegal, and/or the Leadership Team, assisting with litigation, record keeping, maintaining and responding to subpoenas, review/legal research, and any other legal administrative support. The CAO Junior Paralegal will use discretion and professional judgment, in collaboration with and under the direction of the CAO General Counsel and Senior Paralegal to provide high level and exceptional legal support to CAO in a demanding, fast paced environment.The ideal candidate will have substantial experience with condensing and compiling information, doing legal research, and creating and maintaining the CAO contract management platform. In addition, this position will need to stay abreast of relevant laws and regulations impacting the healthcare industry. This position will assist in the provision of legal counsel across all aspects of private medical practice operations. This is a 100% onsite role in Bethesda, MD.Primary Responsibilities:Work closely with the CAO General Counsel, and/or Senior Paralegal C to gain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of CAO structure, programs, and unique organizational needs.Prepare litigation materials, creating privilege logs, cite-checking, and performing pretrial preparation, and legal research or drafting as needed.Organize and file pleadings, motions and other documents pertaining to cases naming CAO, and maintaining a summary of each case for monthly meetings.Assist with legal support activities and discovery that includes holds, hold process, and drafting of reports related to those legal activities.Assisting with transmittal, filing, scheduling and archiving documents according to records management needs.Manage deadlines, filings, and the flow of facts and information, in addition, schedule, organize and prepare documents and materials for meetings.Type correspondence, reports, and tabular data from drafts and ensure proper edits which include spelling, punctuation, and grammar in compliance with identified style and standards.Utilize Word, Excel, PowerPoint, databases, graphics, project management applications, and other applications in support of the work.Coordinate with CAO General Counsel to meet correspondence deadlines.Maintain hard copy and electronic filing and record-keeping systems, as well as retrieve and file documents in these systems and maintain logs and reports of said systems.Assistant CAO General Counsel and/or Senior Paralegal with performing legal research.Aid in reviewing incoming legal correspondence. Participate in the collection and distribution of incoming legal correspondence, prepare mailings, and communicate with a variety of CAO internal and external stakeholders.Keep abreast of legislative changes.Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.Assist with special projects outside of the administrative support duties identified above.Performs all other duties as assigned.Required Education and Experience:3 or more years of paralegal experience, preferably in a law firm.Experience in litigation and court proceedingsProficiency with Microsoft Office suite of productsExperience collaborating across multiple functionsExperience innovating in a fast-growing work environment and dealing with ambiguityCompetencies / Required Skills and Abilities:Strong Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop relationships and collaborate and influence in a decentralized organization.Confident, independent thinker and strong decision-making ability when circumstances warrant such action.Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with a proven track record of results.Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.Able to work independently.Exudes professionalism in presentation.Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language.Physical Demands:Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 25 pounds.Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when performing desk duties.Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.Must be able to communicate clearly to patients and coworkers in person and over the telephone.Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
