Apply Today!   Where You Will Work Located approximately 50 miles northeast of Safford, Arizona on U.S. Highway 191, Morenci operations (an open-pit copper mining complex) has been in continuous operation since 1939. The operation consists of two concentrators, crushed-ore leach pad and stacking system, a low-grade run-of-mine (ROM) leaching system; four SX plants; and three EW tank houses that produce copper cathode. Morenci is a unique company town where our employees and their families can reconnect with nature through hiking, fishing, camping, hunting and numerous parks. What You Will DoUnder general supervision, complete logging of drill samples, conduct geologic mapping and complete resource block models. Provide technical expertise, guidance and leadership in geological exploration and resource modeling. Perform logging of core and reverse circulation drill cuttings and peer review evaluation of Geologist I and II logging qualitySupervise and direct drilling, road construction and drill sample preparation by contractorsIntegrate and interpret all geological data (e.g. rock type, alteration, structure), assay, and mineralogical data into geologic maps and internally consistent cross sections and level plansProvide coaching and mentoring to Geologist I and II to develop their skillsSupervise a team of Geologists in the completion of computerized resource block models that meet corporate modeling standardsMaintain current working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local regulationsProvide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulationsPrepare and update drill hole database, maps of deposits and other exploration recordsWork with Metallurgists in providing samples for processing testing and evaluation and in the development of ore typesPerform surface and underground geologic mappingAssist in the formulation of short-range plans and budget preparation for geological exploration and evaluation at assigned sitePerforms other duties as requiredWhat You Bring To FreeportMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Geology or related scientific discipline and five (5) years of experience in Geology or related scientific field, ORMaster's degree in Geology and three (3) years experience in Geology or related scientific fieldCriteria/ConditionsAbility to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in EnglishAbility to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standardsMust be able to work in a potentially stressful environmentWork is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particlesWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and seeOccasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 60 pounds) during the course of the workdayPersonal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, or manufacturing plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as requiredWhat We Offer You The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $97,500-$138,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors.
