Health Technician (Head Start)

This employment opportunity is for direct hiring with our partner - Boys and Girls of Puerto Rico, in the town of San Juan.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The health assistant will work in collaboration with the health team/coordinator and the family involvement team to ensure the health and well-being of all children and to achieve our results for children of all abilities, including but not limited to health screenings, data entry, and follow-up. Ultimately, the Assistant will be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions, and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent the general expectations of all Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico employees.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

• Help the Health Coordinator/team to develop and execute a screening plan for the program year.
• Conduct all health, hearing, and vision screenings, using internal examination machines in children and assist with the conduct of other controlled health screenings (growth assessments, blood pressure, hemoglobin).
• Work in coordination with the family and health team to ensure that a medical and dental home and insurance determination is made within 30 days after the child's entry into the program and a determination of the child's status within 90 days after the child's entry into the program.
• Develop and implement strategies with the Health and Family team to ensure that all children are up to date with requirements, including receiving timely evaluation and treatment for identified concerns.
• Assist the Health Coordinator/team in distributing a variety of health screenings/requirements and letters of screenings/evaluations or documentation not received from parents.
• Ensure that standards and regulations are observed during evaluation/screening days at the centers.
• Monitor health supplies and screening equipment of the centers, first aid kits, emergency backpacks, concern lists, and medications.
• Develop strategies with the health and family coordinator regarding center-wide strategies/incentives to keep health documentation updated.
• Contribute to establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment.
• Support the health and well-being of all children and families.
• Participate in assigned meetings, events, and trainings as necessary.
• Work in coordination with the Health and Family team in obtaining medical authorization forms from families.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Associate's degree in Nursing as a minimum.
• Previous work experience in the health field, preferably with children and families.
• Requires physical examination and background check.
• Availability to travel locally or long distance up to 10% of the time for meetings or work-related functions.
• Possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Bilingual: ability to translate and interpret (according to program and language).
• Ability to effectively interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong leadership skills and excellent oral and written communication.
